Just saw on sprintfeed.com that the Echo is already on the end of life (EoL) list. Sucks that we can't get any devs on our side to bring more life into this phone.

Think Kyocera will still support it?

Ouch, that F'ing sucks. Kyocera might still support us, it's still their flagship device after all, but who knows. This thing still has sooooo much potential, it's a bummer after only (6-ish months?) we get EOLd.

Sad day this is for us with the Echo :'(

I hope that Kyocera does. IMO it could be seen as an unfinished product since they still haven't done anything about Simul-Task improvements they were going to bring.

Yeah they did say they would. I sent a email to them on the echo site to try and get some info but who knows if I'll hear back. Oh well I guess, been considering looking at getting another device anyway, just nothing I can do with this right now and that bugs me

I know. I was wondering if I would be able to trade it in for something different at a Sprint store. Is that even possible?

Outside of the 30 days...err 14 day return policy Idk, always worth a shot I guess. I wonder what the trade in on it would be

If any one is able to trade in the phone, please share your experience... iff only we could get a root on the GB it will raise some hopes of using this phone for some more time.

Eh, I'm kinda skeptical on it. They probably won't honor the price it was bought for. You probably can't trade it for another EOL device.

I made the move from the Palm Pre on Echo's Launch Day after MLB dropped support for the Palm Pre. I am still happy with my choice. Hater reviewers (and PODCASTERS - yes you!) had rage with the seam between the screens. I looked at the 2nd screen as a bonus. Instead of a slider keyboard, I got extra screen space for an on-screen keyboard when I needed it and I had extra screen space the rest of the time. That extra screen space came with the minor cost of a seam running down the middle. If I had gone with another phone instead of the echo, I would never get the extra screen space. I never got hung up about simul-task because I never used it. Dolphin HD was my browser, so no simul there. I always used either the standard single screen mode or tablet mode. The recent update to Gingerbread improved battery life and stability. The update seems to block all of the rooting techniques, so beware if that is important to you. With such an early EOL, I am worried about Sprint's ability or interest if I need a repair.

After some thought overnight I believe that this phone is not a bad choice.. probably I over reacted yesterday... I think it is more of a personal preference... I am happy with the phone... if we get root it will make rhe phone even better in the user community here...

I got this phone for what it is not what it could be. No complaints for me. As for Rooting,I had the HTC Hero and never thought about it. I am not into changing the way the phone works. After all it is just a phone to me. I will play a game once in a while on it but I might only use the phone 3 or so times a week. I have a Cell phone for one reason. I don't want to break down in my car or truck and have no way to get help. As long as I am in an area the phone works that is. I do go up on the mountain a lot.

I did ask Kyocera a few days ago if they would ever support an unlocked boot loader and I got a reply from support that said 'No'. So I don't think there will be any further love from Kyocera.

Yeah, the phone is still fantastic it's just how quickly that it reached it's EoL surprised me.

It must of had some really miserable sales. I wonder if it would have done any better if it had been released with GB already on it?

Gingerbread or not, it has been difficult for people to accept the fact that there are two folding screens. Also, these days, we are getting bigger form-factor screens which when combined provide a similar size.

But, it is a great phone and I will probably stick to it hoping that someday there will be a root so that I could manage the phone effectively by taking backups et all.

Or it doesn't have a bootloader....at any rate, Kyocera said they weren't going to be helping out the mod community any.

It's unfortunate that it's being EOLd - I mean, it just released in April. I've been doing my due diligence the past few weeks to make sure it's the right phone to get, and now I read this.

I'm still getting it, assuming it will be available next month (the EOL notice does state "Early October").
