Will it get ICS? Has it even gotten Gingerbread yet? I am thinking about getting one but I want ICS when it gets released.

HA! Are you kidding me? Samsung/Sprint support of their phones is horrendous. Mark my words: you will not see ICS on this phone. And if you do, it won't be because of Samsung. It'll be because of other devs working their butts off for it.

That is what I figured. Do you think it would get rooted at some point?

Epic has been rootable since it came out. As for updates, lets get Gingerbread on the Epic before we realistically ask about ICS. I am wondering if you meant to ask these in the Epic Touch 4G forum as opposed to the Epic 4G.

I'm thinking the same thing. The touch will probably get ICS. This will not.

I didn't know if Epic 4G has gotten Gingerbread yet. Epic Touch 4G has Gingerbread pre-installed, and Google has stated every Gingerbread device will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich. So Epic Touch 4G will be getting ICS at some point, probably next year since Samsung is very slow at updates.

May I remind everyone in this forum that we have spent a great amount of time running "leaks" and ROMs based on "leaks". So in the end, someone will port ICS to the Epic and we should all enjoy ICS on Epic. Just out of curiosity, how similar are the Epic and Epic Touch? Could ICS or even Gingerbread b ported off of Epic Touch?

They aren't close at all. However we know Nexus S 4G is getting ICS, which is the exact same phone. Of course TouchWiz won't be there but that shouldn't be a huge problem I wouldn't think.

Maybe close to the same exact phone, but being similiar hasn't helped.. CM7 is still ways off from being 100% functional on the Epic even though they are similiar...

The closest the Epic will get to Ice Cream Sandwich is Froyo sandwiched between two gingerbread cookies.

The fact that this is the only Galaxy S (1 or 2) with a keyboard is the nail in the coffin. It's possible some dev might port ICS to another S1 but I doubt anyone will put that effort into this particular phone.

dude, rooting is something YOU do, not the phone, not the provider or manufacturer. Better study up before you try it. It will void your warranty.

itll never happen.....hopefully the epic touch 4g atleast gets ics but wouldnt be surprised if it didnt

Gingerbread will be the final destination for the Epic. At best you may get a theme to flash imitating ICS but that's about the extent of it

Sent from my Nexus S 4g running Ice Cream Sandwich. : p
