i had the EVO for a short time and took it back when i learned of the Epic coming with the full keypad.

my question is on multitasking does it truly do it. on my pre i can listen to Pandora and email and text without loosing the stream for music. this has become a big part of my routine now for some odd reason. can Android or at least the Epic do this. it did not seem like the EVO did but i only had it a week or so.

thank you in advance for your reply.

i forgot to mention i did a google search and searched the forums and found no info on this topic. jsut the fact that it could have several apps open running in the background and it did not discuss if they would go dormant if not on the main screen.

Yup, it can do that, you're good. As far as im aware, apps dont go dormant when you switch 'em. Any music/sound app im listening to keeps playing when i swap, so you should be fine.

I once was listening to music on the stock music player, had my gps on navigating me to a location in real-time with the Google Navigation app (Google Maps), texting a couple friends, and browsing the web ALL at the same time switching between each task. Albeit, my battery did get a bit warm, but it did all of those tasks at the same time without a hitch.

Make sure that you press home when you want to use another app and not back. Pressing back to exit an application will close it.

hey dmlee, so if that closes it then when I go to my applications that are running, i do see that some are closed but i also see lots of things like Swype and Google Talk that are still running are those killing my battery, is that what people are using Advanced Task Killer for? THX

dmlee, with that being said is it possible to take a pic while on a phone call and email or txt it to someone?

It will let you text. It will send out email if on 4G but it won't let you start the Camera while on a call. It will let you send an MMS on 4G while on a call using an existing picture from your library.

Well, I'm not dmlee, but if you're using ATK, it's not necessarily a good idea.

Sometimes ATK shows you not so much "running applications", but shows you "running services" - which, a lot of times, you don't want to kill off.

For example: Killing off the Swype service could possibly stop Swype from working until you somehow restart it. It might just take bringing up the touch keyboard, or it may require restarting your phone.

Another example: There's a "Google Talk" service that, if you kill, will stop your GMail push notification from working.

Everything you need to kill you can usually kill without ATK; just hold down the home button and then hit "Task Manager". Kill off everything (unless you're using LauncherPro).

If you still think DRM needs to be killed off (and, as of the most recent update, I've heard it can be left alone now), you just need to find your running services.

I'm sure you can find a heated debate about the usefulness of ATK in multiple places on this and other Android forums. I've heard it was needed in earlier versions of Android, but there are those who say that it's not needed for 2.1 and later versions. I'm sure you'll even find claims that it's more of a harm to your battery life than good.

I don't use it, and anecdotally I could theoretically have over 40 hours of battery life (turning off 3G using Power Control Plus' button but leaving WiFi on in no sleep, light use in a decent cell signal area, according to Power Control Plus' battery monitor). In reality I have never gotten that far, but I've seen the battery at higher than 75% after 10 hours off plug.

The point being of all this that if you start killing everything in sight off using ATK, depending on your settings, you might be killing off stuff you actually need, and that it may not help your battery life all that much.
