Has anyone done a speed test yet with the Epic on 4g?

I'm curious to see if it's better or the same as the EVO.

Well, to be fair, you would have to run the tests side by side. Even that may have too many variable differences...

EDIT: Oh Oh, when I read "speed test", I was thinking network speed. Guess I need more coffee...

I've seen a speed (or was it performance) test of the Epic vs. a rooted Nexus One with a custom ROM installed, and the N1 won. Try searching on Youtube, you can find some great stuff.

My Epic is getting faster 4G speeds in my house than my friend's Evo did in my house.

Hers got about 3-4 while mine is getting 5-6. (To be fair, her Evo was still on 2.1)

I was actually thinking network speed. I'd hazard a guess that downloading a large file over 4G would use less battery than over 3G.

On my Palm Pre, constantly downloading kills the battery. So I imagine turning on 4G, downloading a whole podcast, then turning it off would be awesome for battery life.

I have 20 megabit cable at home so lately I turn on the Pre's wifi to get my podcast before I hit the road (I drive about 600 miles/week). That's mostly due to 3G battery drain when streaming media all the way to and from work. I once used over 10GB of data in a single month. Haha - so network speed is important.

I'm eligable 10/1 and my Pre is on it's death bed. I'm hoping that someone at Sprint will help me out when I call tomorrow.

If you're on the premier 1 yr upgrade plan they won't let you upgrade even a day early =(. I called my local sprint store, and Sprint customer service and they both said the same thing. Granted I think they may have budged if I said I was really upset, but both employees were polite and I can seriously wait a day. From what I gathered after making some calls they aren't flying off the shelves in my area.

I saw this video. Epic had very respectable results given it had 2.1. GPU speeds blew away N1 though.

My epic on 2.1 and Touchwiz bloatware runs better than my Evo with Cyanogen mod. It's not really close actually.

The reps might not be able to, but account services (retention) can. No guarantee they will, but they can.

I've done it, without having to be "upset." Just be nice, and realize that you're taking their time to get something you want and they don't have to provide.

Hmm Sprint premier customer and sprint always gives me a 2 month break on my upgrade. Purchased my palm pre friday before Labor day last year and I have been eligible since Jul 1 so not sure why you can't upgrade early.

EPIC seems to be running a little faster than the EVO. Fastest speed yet on my home WIFI is 12mbps on speedtest.net app Fastest 4g was about 5mbps in the Nashville area on 440W using speedtest.net app.

My 3g down stream is about the same 1000kbps. However the evo is getting about 700 up but epic about 150.

Not sure. They just quoted the terms and apologized. They kept asking me if I was satisfied with that answer, to which I replied "not really", but I didn't feel like eating anymore time from work. I'll have to work with my company to cancel my BES account, and give me ActiveSync access anyway so no biggy.

That's good to hear. I don't live in a 4G area but I do work in one.

Xenx, I will probably call retentions directly. They were really great about helping me out with my coverage issues and getting me an airrave.

The Hero is destroying my Epic in download/upload numbers on 3G (no 4g, maybe next week I'll see it in S. FL). Its a moot point though cause browsing, downloading, installing all is faster. Its weird... like the numbers are wrong. I can't do the tests side by side as my Hero is deactivated right now, but yeah, its definitely a paradox. The 1ghz processor is just that much better at rendering pages.

My 3g signal keeps going up and down, between no bars and four bars without me doing anything. My pre used to do this, but not this badly.

This is what engadget were complaining about with the Droid 2 in boston.

The intercept had good, consistent, reception here, and thepre and tour work fine as well.

I'm curious about this as well. Curious enough that I might have to stop by a Sprint store and see how the Epic does compared to my Evo.

That's pretty weird.

I called Sprint on my lunch break and they refreshed my account a few weeks early so that I can upgrade to the Epic. I got the feeling the girl really bent over backwards for me. <3 sprint.

I'll be running my own little unofficial Boston speed tests.
