Eris 2.1 Changes/Findings

On the way home today I tried Nav with streaming Pandora. It worked well, Pandora was briefly muted when the turn by turn directions were announced. Only issue was that there was some issue with the menu of the Nav during the streaming of Pandora. Response from hitting the menu button was slow at best. Pandora did not experience this issue though.

Somehow I managed not to throw the phone against the wall... Re-added the clock/weather from HTC widgets, clock 3 of 12 (oh how Borg). Contacts resolved themselves after a while for the most part, all my shortcuts I had to redo.

I wasn't able to input text on any site (FB, Goggle search, etc) and almost considered factory reset. Clearing the cache & cookies & resynching FB & Google fixed this plus contact pictures (thank all the gods!)

Also have call-people shortcuts that were missing the pics from my contacts; deleting & re-adding fixed this.

Sorry - how do you clear the cache and cookies? I'm having similar issues.

anyone else have issues with the battery life after the new update installed?? My phone doesn't charge pass 40% and dies very quickly after i disconnect from charger...I think it also seems to get warmer from charging.

Anyone experiencing any kind of widget or speed dial won't set issues, my wifes phone ran into the problem tonight with speed dial and a few widgets problems. I did the factory reset, under settings --> privacy --> factory rest, and it fixed all the issues. Hope this helps someone by confirming this works!

my only question is what does the droid eris with 2.1 look like without SENSE UI enabled?! I want to see if anyone has done this yet, does it look like the nexus one home screen or does it look like the regular vanilla we are all used to?!

looks just like the stock vanilla home, sadly it doesn't look like the nexus launcher. kinda broke my heart so i started using Launcher Pro Beta and it does the trick quite nicely. It even has the Leap effect like Sense 2.1

then again, i'm running the root 2.1v3 i believe, so it could be different for all i know

To the good folks having issues with 2.1 are you moving from 1.5 or one of the leaked roots ? I waited for the over the air and have had no issues thus far (knock on wood ).

I'm having no issues, and I received my update OTA from regular 1.5.

A girl in one of my classes who sits near me also has an Eris, and she got the update but missed it somehow, I had to update it for her, lmao.

But according to my mom a lot of her girlfriends with Eris's are mad about their contacts. Mine synced with google no problem without me knowing, so I dunno what they did. >_>

AND GOOGLE NAV OMG <3 <3 <3

Its like, absolutely perfect. It knew when I was right outside my HOUSE.

Just a random question, does anyone know where to get a dock similar to the Nexus One one?

I've got some problems I've noticed. After updating to 2.1, facebook is having updating issues. Before the update all of the friends pictures who I had synced in my contacts facebook pics would show up, now after the update they do not,and I can't figure out how to fix it. Anybody else had this issue. Also I can't get it to delete the update file from the sd card, it keeps saying error.

From home screen hit menu> scroll to Accounts & sync> you should see your accounts (i.e. Facebook, Google, Twitter). Hit Snyc now on bottom left. That should bring everybody back.

Got my OTA last night. Here's what I've noticed so far:

Good:
-Navigation
-Quicker/More responsive
-Home screen zoom out crap
-More stable Browser
-Market is WAY better
-Settings menu improved
-Better camera app

Bad:
-Messaging widget sometimes shows unread texts when they're are none
-Crashed upon waking it up once
-No 3D Gallery, Speech to text, Multi touch in Maps.

My husband and I both have the Eris, on a family acct and he got his OTA from 1.5 two days before mine came through. As everyone else says, smoother, feels faster. The download took about 20 min and all sync - ing went smoothly. I have 'Better Keyboard' which has voice to text that I was using before on 1.5 so do not miss Speech to Text. The only problem so far, the text editor Astro which I really like is NOT saving changes to documents. A different app with a text editor is working perfectly, weird. Will have to reload Astro and try it, again.

Does anyone know if you can select specific Groups from Gmail with 2.1? I know have ALL of my contacts from Gmail on my Eris, where I used to be able to just have the Phone list group I had created. Thanks!

Easter Egg- Recent Programs shortcut

Maybe this has already been mentioned, but after updating to 2.1 I noticed:

*Long press the home key from the home screen to open up a list of recent programs.
---Handy especially if you're using an app not on your home screen, then you dont have to scroll back thru them all. (I'm not referring to home screen jump here, I'm referring to a recent apps/programs list!)

*Also, the camera now has swipe-n-zoom. From camera viewfinder screen, push little +/- button in bottom right corner, then swipe to zoom in or out. Sure beats having to spin the trackball as in 1.5.
Another tidbit about the camera, and this was true in 1.5 too, you dont have to press the trackball to take a photo, simply long press and hold a spot in the screen. It will spot-focus then snap. Handy since the trackball seemed to make it jiggle even while being careful.

FWIW, long press on Home to show recent apps was always there in 1.5 as well. I discovered that press and hold camera trick accidentally (though I hardly use the phone to take photos - it is a pretty mediocre camera.)

whenever i click to view my photos in list view for easy scrolling it just goes back to my albums screen.....that sucks....

I read about this on androidforums.com. The person reporting it fixed it with a factory reset, but somebody else wondered if he had the app Spare Parts installed, which apparently has an option to change the behavior of the end/power button. If you have Spare Parts, you may want to poke around in the settings, or try an uninstall to see if the problem goes away.

Spare Parts says it only affects the END button behavior on 1.5. I've tried it on all version of the 2.1 OS and it does not make the END behave as in 1.5. Too bad, I really liked the way it worked then.

I was having the same issue (couldn't put the phone to sleep with the red button). My setting was for it to go to the home page, then sleep. I went into Spare Parts and changed the setting to go to sleep only and now it sleeps when I press the red button. It doesn't really matter what page it's on, and I usually press the home button before the red button anyway, so all is good in my Droid world again. It sleeps when I want it to and I don't have to wait for it to time out. That was driving me nuts!
