Eris Is great

just got to say there hasn't been alot of talk about the Eris but wow what a great phone this is. the UI the multitouch the typing all work great. and its only a hundred bucks. i have to say if this thing gets 2.0 ill be the first to say its way better then the droid. anyone else here loving this phone.

For $99, the Eris is a steal. Played with the Droid and Eris yesterday and the SenseUI was much smoother than the stock android OS on the Droid. The Hardware and OS are a bit outdated but you'd never notice by just comparing the two side-by-side. If HTC gets SenseUI to work with 2.0 on the Eris as well as it does on 1.5, it'll bury the droid.

I agree. Got my Eris today. An iPhone it ain't (had one, hated AT&T) but it is pretty good. And for $99, an outstanding value. First Android device and when HTC gets SenseUI running smoothly on 2.0, should be excellent. Compared to 3.1 on the iPhone, you can tell cupcake isn't quite as refined yet. But awfully close and they'll close the gap and/or surpass Apple quickly I suspect.

i also love my eris. I would like a bigger/better battery.
i am concerned that the eris getting 2.0 would take away from the droid. But as time goes by, i feel both phones will only improve.
I also considered the droid but loved the sense ui. In my opinion the eris is way better than the iphone 3g (8gb).

Yes, I agree with all of you. I haven't purchased anything (yet), but in all my research, I think
the HTC 'Eris' is my preference, over the Droid, even tho Droid seems somewhat
'higher powered' and is more expensive.

I'm not sure I liked the feel of Droid's physical little keyboard, so a virtual (touch) keyboard will be fine.

The ONE tempting thing about the Droid is its significantly larger screen.

[All that said, right now I'm probably gonna get neither, as I'm 'not over' being pissed
at Verizon that I can't just pay full-price for an Eris, buy it without a contract, and
just use it from home as a PDA on wifi (I don't care about making phone calls on it...as
I would just use my existing 'dumb cellphone' for that.) ]

ya the one thing that the eris kills the droid on is typing. i would say it works just as good as the iphone

Wait until the battery gets hit with Google Navigation when 2.0 gets released. Ouch... have to recharge after driving down the block.

Played with the Eris yesterday and I have to say I was shocked at how nice this phone is. To me this phone is better than the Droid. Though, it's a little small for me and still not as good as the iPhone 3GS.

Great phone though, if I didn't have the iPhone I would have this phone.

It's certainly not the iPhone, but I'm willing to venture it's the closest thing to an iPhone Verizon has had. I don't know why they don't push this one more. Great price, great little phone, just fix the battery life

Plus, it's just like the iPhone 3GS ... download the compass app, and the compass works!

Now, there's an App for That on the network that has a Map for That

Thankfully its now standard on all Android phones from them. Its part of their phone that gets you campagin. And truthfully ALL their phones now have some version of Sense on them no matter the OS. They want you to be able to tell its an HTC. This is the first time they really started adding their own touch to their devices. Im definitely a fan
