Eris Stuck on Android Screen

A co-worker of mine has an Eris he went to do a restore on it and now the phone is stuck with the skateboarding androids on the screen. He has tried to do a battery pull and treid to reinstall the OS manually and nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
