Hi Forum, I'm new to Android, and was looking to update an old HP Stream 7 tablet with Android to breathe some new life into it (it's super slow with Win 10)
I downloaded the iso image for Android 5.1 which seems to be the recommended version for this older device. I used the x86 version of Rufus to create a boot file using my USB drive.
However when I connect the USB drive via my OTG adapter and try booting from it, I get the error "The Selected Boot Device Failed".
I've switched off secure boot on the tablet.
Does anyone have any other recommendations on what I could try?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Android Central forums. It would be interesting to see if you can install a version of Android on your Windows tab. While I'm not an expert I'm pretty sure you would have to root the tablet to attempt this and you will likely struggle to find a version of Android that would run on this machine. To install a version of Android you would need someone to have made a version of Android for that device, that works with its hardware. I think Google says it best with this reply.

Installing Android on an HP Stream 7 (an x86 Intel-based Windows tablet) is complex and often unstable, but the most compatible option is generally a 32-bit version of Android-x86 6.0 (Marshmallow) or 7.1 (Nougat). These versions provide better support for Intel Atom Z3735G drivers, though issues with touch, audio, or Wi-Fi are common.

Where did you get your version of Android? Was it labeled specifically for your device, or was it just labeled "should work" or "could work"?

My personal feeling it this isn't going to work. You're mixing apples and Android, well Windows and Android in this case. You're not likely to find an Android ROM that works with your Windows hardware. The first step will be rooting the tablet, which means finding a root solution which will exist or not based on the popularity of the device. The more popular, the more likely there is to be a root solution. At the end of the day my best advice would be to ask this someplace like XDA Developers where they talk about rooting, ROMs and Android modifications more than you are likely to find here. It's similar to us here at AC, and you would follow similar steps to post a question there. Where did you find the ROM you're trying to install? Is there a way to ask questions there? If they are recommending something they may, I would say should but I don't know the site, be able to help or offer more advice being the one's who suggest this vs us who don't really deal too much with this type of thing.

@mustang7757 is the one who many here turn to for ABD and firmware advice, perhaps he will have other suggestions, so we can ask?
