I got Tmobile variant S23 Ultra. My wife set it up using smart switch samsung app to transfer her stuff from her Note 20 Ultra. After was done, I got home and called Tmobile to activate via eSim. Once eSim activated, it restarted the phone to complete activation along with tmobile crapwear, but it seems that it factory reset the phone, and we had to go through the smart switch transfer again..

Just FYI.

My phone should arrive tomorrow. I will activate first, then transfer data.. learned my lesson.

I noticed the same thing after activating esim. I still prefer physical sim due to the fact that T-Mobile does not support using the native Samsung VVM app if you choose esim.

If esim requires setting up the phone again I'm definitely against it. We have to reset the watches if you change phones which is bad enough.

Oh. That is a good tip. I will try using physical sim when mine comes in today.

EDIT: not coming today. UPS fu$&$ up sorting and needs to be re routed to correct destination. Delivery date will be updated as soon as possible. Whatever. Jajaja

That is very strange. I did the Smart Switch, installed my Physical SIM, went through the process to convert to eSIM and nothing strange happened for me. I removed my Physical SIM after reboot and everything was there working as expected and nothing out of the ordinary.

Although, I did NOT call customer support to convert, I just followed the instructions provided in the email.

Once phone is setup and activated with a sim, converting to esim does not wipe the phone. The wipe occurs only during initial setup when selecting esim before the phone is provisioned. Weird, but that's what Samsung chose to do.

Ah, missed that. :D Thanks!

Has anyone had success using esim and swapping phones regularly from android to ios and back? I have both and haven't upgraded to the 14 because of this.

Would also like to know this.

I know this is an older thread but I recently took the plunge as I was getting tired of removing the case and ejecting the sim trays to swap sims.

I'm with T-Mobile and find it incredibly easy to change phones with esim. I open the T-Mobile app, message them telling them I want the esim activated for eid on number xxx-xxx-xxxx and a few minutes later I get a pin texted to me. I respond with that pin# and then another text comes asking me to confirm the esim change.

And that's it. Usually takes 5 min or so never have to talk to anyone or converse really. Next best thing to automated process.

Oh and I will add I do this with Pixel fold and 7 pro ( both android 14 beta) and Razr + 2023.

Are you doing that with the same phone number? Still alot quicker changing out sim cards.
