Essential Apps

NoLed is a visual notification app that pops up small light on your screen. I use it as well. Works great for gmail, sms, missed calls etc. I will not work if you have your phone set to vibrate though on some of the notifications. I had trouble with yahoo mail as well so I added K9 mail. It works great for that.

Basically compensates for the lack of the LED notification some phones have.

Thanks and Thanked.

Have you noticed any particular battery drain when using NoLED?

All the Best!

I have not seen any major drain as long as you keep the screen blink off, im sure screen blink drains alot but the small icons floating on the screen use a minimal amount of power at best especially with the screen mostly off.

*Does anyone know of an app that controls which type of keyboard you use at certain times? Say, when the phone's in portrait, the swype keyboard pops up and in landscape the standard android keyboard pops up?

None that i know of but sounds like a good idea

RunKeeper Pro is a great app that's free right now. Pick it up now if you ever plan to track running/biking/hiking ... it's been updated for manual tracking of treadmill and other indoor activities too.

I also just picked up Calorie Counter by MyFitnessPal. it seems to be better than the other Calorie Counter app. And don't mind the "sharing personal info" reviews, it's the other app that's listed at the WSJ site for sharing info.

I was thinking of the same type of app yesterday. . . where swype in portrait and mulitouch keyboard in landscape. Run with the idea devs!
