Everything Odin

so I have an odd quandary; I was going to change from Andromeda 2.0 to Phoenix Rising 4.5 this morning so I backed up all my settings and apps and then made a backup file on my desktop and then used Odin to flash back to stock and then did a Master Clear with Odin. Next I went to re-root and one click root isn't working. It's either hanging saying that the adb didn't ack or it's hanging saying that it's launching daemon but never moves or it looks like it pushes the file and completes but doesn't actually reboot phone into recovery.

neither the 3 button method OR the method using sdk tools is working either. I've basically got a perfectly stock phone that I'm unable to root...

has anyone else had this happen or have any ideas on how to resolve?

Copy the update.zip you hopefully backed up during your backup process to your sdcard and flash in recovery. Then flash the ROM you want... there is no need to root.

EDIT- If your 3 button to get into recovery is gone, I am not sure where to go from there. If you get it fixed this time, make sure you only ever use the 3 button safe Odin stock flash. not the one-click.

Can't get into recovery OR download... three button method doesn't work.

The battery stays out until after you connect the USB, and you need to hold both volume buttons down while putting it in. Sounds harder than it is, but is awkward until you hold it the right way (I turn the phone upside down and hold the volumes with my index finger, and then slide the battery in). Hopefully you get the nice beep BEEP from Windows almost immediately.

If you were using the one-click make sure you have the stand alone Odin to load the PIT and PDA files with using this other method.

mmm.... no love with that method either... just get's me a charging icon... i reinstalled the usb drivers and am trying the one click root again to see if i can get in via clockworkmod

Edit: Nope, it's hosed. unless someone else has another idea i guess i'm stuck with stock till i can get around to making a jig.

Try it a couple times... I get that to happen if I don't have the volumes pushed down right.

You mention the sdk method. You have tried using adb to issue the "reboot recovery" through USB debugging? I think you may need root to do that. It has been a long time since I was not rooted, so I can't recall for certain.

z4root?

EDIT- Forgot, but make sure you have USB debugging turned on in your stock load in order for any of those things to work.

OK Solved: I did a little digging on the interwebs and found a reference to the error I was getting with the one click root and found that there is a specific port (5037) that the sdk tools use to listen on and if that's in use by another application it will cause all kinds of havoc. I rebooted my machine and then did netstat to make sure nothing was using it and then tried the adb reboot recovery command and it worked just fine.

hope that is able to help anyone else that might run into that problem.

@loraque: thanks for all the help!

were you using froyo or eclair,,,either way you will need to Odin back to whatever you were using, then flash rom manager again, boot into clockwork and do a nandroid restore

does odin take your phone back to 2.1? or now that the official froyo is out does it now take it back to stock 2.2?

ODIN loads whatever you tell it to load. There are files for 2.1 and 2.2.

I have not seen an ODIN of Kb1 yet, but I haven't looked either. I am sure there is at least a CW version, not to mention several cooked KB1 ROMs.
