So now that everyone has had a little time with their Evo 3ds, what do you think? Does the unofficial roadmap hinting at the release of the within sway you from your choice? Are you sticking with the Evo 3d? Why? Why not? Do you think the performance is on par with the SGS2?

Personally, I love the phone. It is fast, real fast, which is saying a lot since it runs a heavy sense UI. The sense UI integrates all aspects of the phone so well, I dare say no other android phone even comes close to this level of integration. Yes, you can get third party apps, but various apps in sense work together seamlessly.

I went to a local AT&T store and compared the screen to the Super+ on the infuse 4g. I must say, I prefer the Evo3d screen. So did a few other strangers that I called over for an opinion (3 gave it too me, one person looked at me weird and turned away....made my day). Yes the color saturation is high, but it looks rather cheesy. To put it as the At&t employee put it "You know that so real spider commercial? Yeah, well its wrong...I don't understand the hype around this screen".

That is just my quick take. Everything else great, from battery life to call quality. 3d is cool as well.

Did he actually say that? Isn't that grounds for him to lose his job?

Re: Evo 3d out, Within Expected

Truth in advertising, since there was no imminent prospect of me getting a Galaxy SII/Within, I've never checked out the screen in person. I've always just accepted the near-universal hype. There are other features of the SII that I like, including the slim size after carrying around my EVO 4G with "pregnant guppy" 3500 mA battery for the past year. I have no use at all for the 3D features of the E3D (I can't see in 3D), so I seriously considered skipping the 3D and waiting for the SII or other developments. I wavered back and forth, but impulsively bought the 3D during the preorder, on the theory that I could use Sprint's excellent return policy if necessary. I'm happy enough with the 3D that I doubt I'll be returning it, so I won't be going with the SII now. The bird in the hand now is more valuable than the bird (or even one and a quarter birds, which is the best the SII would possibly be) a couple of months or more from now.

And I'd have really felt like a jackass if the SII took more than a couple of months to come out, or if it came out and didn't have 4G (which appears to be a possibility, though the supposed road map released today suggests otherwise). I'm happy with the decision I made, even though it was NOT well thought out as I prefer my decisions to be!

Yep, he did, swear on it.

Why would the Samsung be a bird and a quarter? Lets put benchmarks aside, because we know they are no reliable. We also know that both phones packed to the teeth and will do whatever we want them to do. The only thing we have to go on is the appearance of performance. Here is what I mean. To some people, like the phone dog reviewer, the sense UI appears to lag. From what I noticed this is not the case. HTC seems to have taken the approach of smooth, fluid, but gradual transitions. To see what I mean, turn all the animations on, open the message app, and then close it. It is fast, yes, but you will notice it gradually fades back the the home screen. In this case, HTC has chose eye candy over speed (the nice gradual fade over instant transition). Of course you came remedy this by turning off the animations, but actually enjoy them. The interface to the phone is very fluid.

But that is based off of my observation alone. In the lab where I work/study, a friend of mine as the GSG2 unlocked, which he order from overseas and payed a ton for. He loves it. He also loved the 3D today. We wanted to compare the responsiveness of the phones. The Evo3d was just as fast as the samsung galaxy s2 with the animations turned off. I then put launcher pro on the Evo3d, since the animations are more like the SGS2. The evo3d was neck and neck with the samsung. The only major difference noticed was that the Evo3d had a stronger wifi single.

So honestly, the phones are nearly equal in the performance book. It is all about preference. In my opinion, the sense UI looks way more professional than any other UI, but that is just my preference.

On a side note, I love the SLCD, and think I may actually prefer it over the super+. I had expected the opposite, and the deep black the super+ is nice. But actually coloring is way off...and the resolution does make a big difference when you do a lot of reading on the go on the phone...like I do.

Re: Evo 3d out, Within Expected

Had SGS2 for 10 days to feel it out leading up to my 3D purchase today.
It has nothing on the Evo 3D speed wise. Nothing.
Samsung has been aggressive in its smartphone dept in the last year...more than any other manufacturer. Gotta give em credit. SGS2 had three updates in the 2weeks I had it. So they've learned a lesson or two.
Where the game is just over is multimedia...camera-Video images. Evo looks like a decade old device compared to SGS2.
I'm a long time HTC guy but I'll likely be switching because HTC's failed to step up in the camera depth...despite getting a years worth of negative feedback in that dept. They're dead last to Nokia, Samsung, IPhone, and Sony Ericcson.
No go anymore for me (but 'member, I prioritize multimedia features...many don't).

@rockky
Thanks for the comparison. I wanted to know what you thought about the battery life and weight or overall feel of the phone in your hand and pocket.
Glad to know speed isnt really that different.
One of my biggest gripes is the lackluster 2d camera and videos on htc devices relative to samsung, so its good to know about that before hand.

The camera is arguable....though Samsung typically produces some of the best camera phones. Beyond that...I don't see anywhere were the evo3d is lacking in multimedia. I mean...yes it may not be a big deal, but it has 3d, which is the hype in multimedia today.

But, as you indicated, the evo3d is faster...and that is a big plus for me.
