Evo business use - stable and reliable?

AFAIK there are no new upcoming WebOS smartphone on the horizon yet - officially or unofficially. I am still unclear what HP's plan will be for the future of WebOS... several mixed messages there.

I'd say it's stable and reliable, as long as you don't drop it in the toilet. It's kind of a pain in the butt, though because of the battery life. You have to keep turning off features, and back on only when you want them, and make sure to plug it in every chance you get. It's ironic, that the phone has this really great 4G service that makes internet faster, but in order to get any battery life out of your phone you have keep that turned off unless you're specifically using it. Which means in order to use your fast internet, you have to first stop and wait for the fast internet to be turned on and connect, which kind of makes your total internet time not any faster.

I use mine for both personal and business, with Exchange and haven't had one problem. Phone works perfectly and with the latest OTA, I can actually go for about a day and a half under relatively heavy usage(4G, email, text, bunch of phone calls, DocsToGo) so I'm a happy camper.

I own a small business and am very impressed with what I can use the EVO for. Office documents capability is unmatched if you pick up Docs to Go from Dataviz. I can easily view spreadsheets and PDF's for pricing and sales info. I didn't think I would like the on-screen keyboard, but after only a few days I was actually typing faster than a physical keyboard with less wrist strain. There is also speech to text with Android that works perfectly. I use speech to text all the time for long emails and texts and it is a dream. Voice dialing is coming with Froyo 2.2 and email options are just as extensive as WM. I find Exchange with Android to be every bit as good as WM and Google is adding more improvements for Exchange in Froyo. Video chat is great and the HDMI out allows me to do a Power Point presentation right from the EVO. Because of the screen size I don't have to pay extra for GPS navigation in rental cars when I travel. This phone can do everything you need it to and more. Get one and use it for a few weeks to see if you can do without a physical keyboard. If not the Samsung Epic will be out next month and it has a slide-out keyboard.

First, that statement says nothing about when they'll be introducing those new devices. Could be next month, could be next year.

Second, I find the language ("devices," not "phones") interesting. Companies like HP aren't sloppy in their public announcements. They've been pretty vague about their intentions in the phone space. New "devices" could be tablets.

HP Palm hasn't announced any specific devices, but something is certainly coming or will be leaked soon.

See our friends at sister site Precentral.net:

http://www.webosnation.com/hp-and-palm-promise-next-generation-webos-devices

At PreCentral most everyone thinks (or prays) that HP will at some point introduce new hardware for WebOS. Such hardware, everyone there hopes, to come in the form of a smartphone platform.

The facts are:
1. With the purchase of Palm, is logical to conclude that HP will introduce some form of hardware running WebOS.
2. Given the lack of information from HP, the time line for such hardware to make it to the market is unknown.
3. From the different HP statements about WebOS future, the actual type of hardware in which WebOS will likely be deployed (i.e., smartphone, tablet, printers, etc.) is at this point unknown.

So I stand by my original comment about WebOS future being uncertain.

Feel free to believe what you will, but HP did respond to prior concern that the "devices" wouldn't include further smartphones. They reassured the WebOS community that it would, so a second gen Pre or whatever they want to call it is coming. I think their head of marketing commented after the HP CEO statement that had a lot of people up in arms.

Regardless of any Android love, the WebOS UI is so elegant that it's ridiculous to NOT want to see another WebOS smartphone.
