I've had my evo about 2-3 months and I haven't had any problems until the last 3-4 weeks. At 1st it would restart by itself every couple days once a day but the past week its been doing it everyday more than once. Also when it restarts now it takes awhile to turn back on eVen with me holding the power button.
I saw somewhere that it could possibly be apps but I'vE double checked and gotten rid of apps and updates that constantly crash and I even reformatted my 16gbsd card but I have no clue why its turning off and on so if anyone can help me so I don't have to spend a hour and a half at sprint I'd greatly appreciate it!

I have had the same problem and yesterday I did a hard reset. It wasn't fun reloading the programs and setting up email again but it has fixed the restart issue as of now. Have no idea what caused it either

This problem can be related to the faulty hardware in the certain EVO devices. Factory reset and format the SD Card will NOT solve the problem other than replacing it with another device. I just blame HTC for using some cheap parts in the device.

Have the same problem, intermittent. Took back to Sprint they did hard reset and force HTC software update. Fixed it for a few days...back again. Mine is almost always related to blue tooth.

I had this issue only way to fix it is to send it back in, mine would reboot all of the time, sometimes 7-10 times back to back. Sometimes it was just inoperable, our account manager here at work called in told them that i needed my phone and they sent out a replacement for free, that one was a piece of crap, but then they sent out a 2nd one and this one has been working fine. doesn't reboot.

Thanks everybody, I actually didn't have any reboots today and thats been an everyday occurance the past couple weeks but if it does it again I'll try a reset then consider getting a replacement from sprint but my only fear is that they'll send me a refurbished phone...anywho thanks all you rock!

Did a search and this thread came close to what i need help in.

I have the Epic and I'm having some of the same issues. When I plug in my phone to charge it turns on and off. after I turn it off a few times it stops. The bluetooth sounds like a good reason for it to do this because it looks like the phone it is being awaken by signal of some sort. I've turned of bluetooth and in the time it took me to type this it has yet to turn on so hopefully thats it.

If this is the problem, what if any is the fix? would i need to just change the phone or get myself a new bluetooth?

thanks for the help

Take it in and have them test the battery. I have personally seen a bad battery cause this type of issue.

IMO - before you consider any drastic action like an exchange or a return - i'd do a backup with MyBackup Pro or some other backup app and then do a factory wipe. then from the factory wipe state - see if the problem continues. if it doesn't, then load your apps and settings back one by one until you find the culprit.

good luck.

This has happened three times in the past week since I got my replacement EVO (last one had a janky USB port). New phone is hardware version 0003 with software 3.30.651.2. At least I presume it's a new phone that I got (and not a refurb), but I never had this issue with the prior phone that I owned for about four months. I did not have to do a hard reset, it just went quickly to the white HTC screen and hung there slightly longer than normal, and then eventually completed the restart.

This happened to me a lot with 3rd party task managers, 2.1 and 2.2 do not benefit from them. Not sure if this is your issue, but try deleting all if you have any installed. Then reboot afterward. Good luck

My phone shut off no lie 50 times today so I had enough! I went to best buy and the tech there stopped everything running in the background, deleted all app killers (apparently i missed one that i never downloaded) and then switched my text messaging to the orginal version that comes on the phone.

Fingers crossed no problems...
