Evo owners...Does the screen and back scratches easily?

I've heard that the screen is like the HD2 and that thing does not scratch whatever you do to it, but what about the back? I've heard that the texture is the same as the Hero.

What is your input?

ive had it for a few days now and no scratches, its been to the point where i have almost dropped it and had to grab it with my keys in the same hand and it looked like there was a thin line scratch, but i just wiped it away and it was perfectly fine. very resilient... im still waiting for my zagg invisishield in the mail tho :) the back is pretty much a matte finish and seems as if it will scratch easily (even though i have not scratched it yet) but i am being very careful the way i handle the phone, it just feels like something you want to take care of!

It will scratch as easily as any device. I see no particular reason for it to resist scratching. The back will not scratch as easily as the iphones :), but you must be careful of the camera since it protrudes in the most vulnerable of ways. I too have ordered the Maximum Protection ZAGG shield so I can stop babying the phone. I can't speak to the Hero as I have only touched the EVO and Incredible IRL. GET A PROTECTOR, the bigger the screen the weaker the screen. Larger area increases the flex and weakens the overall screen. My OCD doesn't like the back cover, it doesn't sit perfectly which I keep feeling as I handle the phone. Other than that, the device is solidly built.

If the back is anything like the touchstone cover on the back of the Palm Pre, then it would be pretty resistant to scratches. I have a Phantom Skinz on the front of mine and the touchstone cover on my Pre. The thing has been pretty much 100 percent scratch proof. Hope the EVO is the same!

Yea, I inevitably scratch every phone I own. I'll be getting a case and shield for sure.

I'll get a front ZAGG shield, but I don't care about the back. After all, you can take it off, so you could just buy a new backplate if it ever gets damaged bad enough.

I usually don't scratch the back or front, it's the sides (specifically the corners) from dropping it. My Pre has 1 hole in the upper sides, but it still works fine.

To me, scratches anywhere other than the screen is no big deal. Scratches on the screen bug me like crazy.

Accent covers for the back should take care of scratches while enabling personalization should provide increased protection for the camera. Of course that would depend on it snapping on over the back cover or replacing instead, guess we'll have to see.

It has a glass screen like the iPhone and Hero. Should be able to scratch it with keys and nothing should happen to it. If you are worried by a screen protector or invisible shield. I just clean mine with a microfiber cloth and it is good to go. I won't be wasting my money on screen protectors.

I see a lot of people asking how to fix their iphone / ipod glass screens after scratching them. I know they say they can't be scratched, but I don't want to take the chance (even though I guess the Sprint insurances should cover it)

If I'm spending the money to have this great phone, why would I not want to protect it by spending a few dollars? I plan on getting a case to protect the back and a screen protector for the front.

As much as I like the Invisible Shield products (I practically use it on anything I own that has a screen on it), I don't really like how "sticky" it feels which makes it much harder to do multitouch gestures like pinching and so on.

+1:cool:

This is what I am worried about. I have not used a Zagg one before and am unsure how it will affect the touch aspect. Best Buy is putting them on for people for $29 it seems. I have to really think about that....

Give BodyGuardz a try. It has a much smoother feel to it and looks a lot more invisible to me. It also comes with 2 sets in a kit and offers the same protection/warranty that Zagg does.

I also never got the famous orange tinting as I used to get with my IS.

I recommend PhantomSkinz. You get two in your order and they are offering 30% off now. I used them for my Pre and wife's Blackberry and they are great.

Are you sure it's glass -- all the reports thus far indicate plastic.

I dropped mine on a metal floor with grit and dirt. It landed face up and slid a little. Not a mark on it. I expected at least a little scuff where it hit. I am going to cut a piece of screen protector to cover the camera lens so I can worry a little less.
