Evo Shift 4g- Rooted

Using the Visionary plus, I clicked the temproot now option, it starts doing something, then it forces a reboot.

Is this normal or am I missing a step somewhere?

Did u set it to set system r/w after root and run visionary.sh after root ?

No, I didn't do either of those things. The reboot didn't seem normal which is why I figured I'd ask.

So, I'm supposed to check off:

Run visionary.sh after root and set system R/W after root, then press the temproot now button?

just tried and temproot worked no problems for me....got superuser access and everything seems good to go!....still a little afraid to even remove sprint bloatware or do much root stuff without nandroid and a stock RUU to flash if ever necessary...but autokiller and adblocker here i come!

hmm interesting....i rebooted after temprooting with visionary +....i set it to run visionary.sh and set system r/w after root and also set it to temproot on reboot...when the phone started it automatically rooted me again and gave me SU access....all previous permissions were there and didnt ask me again and my autokillers settings even stayed after reboot...however visionary+ is no longer installed and the shortcut i had on my desktop no longer works...do i have to reinstall visionary everytime i reboot? and if so how come it still granted me root access even if i cant find visionary on my phone anymore? any ideas from someone who knows more about this stuff than me lol?

edit: did it again visionary+ is still there....temproot on reboot worked perfectly

heres a good tip in case you didnt know...once temprooted (i like visionary+ it works well and you can enable it to temproot after reboot) download the terminal emulator...open it and type:

su
cd system/app
ls

this will list all the apks in the system/app folder...this will have all the sprint and htc bloatware you dont need....you can then email the whole window to yourself throught the menu (which I then copy and paste into an excel spreadsheet to sort to make it easier to view)....now go into the terminal emulator again and go to the preferences....the last preference should be initial command....type (obviously without the asterisks)

su
cd system/app
rm *exact name of file [case sensitive]*.apk
rm *exact name of file [case sensitive]*.odex

do this for every apk you want to remove....remove both apk and odex.....if youre not sure what the apk is then dont remove it!...thats it now when you back out sense will restart and the bloatware will be gone....now if you have temproot enabled on reboot, everytime you restart visionary will automatically reroot the phone....now click the terminal emulator and it will automatically run the commands and when you back out sense will reload and the bloatware will be gone again....only takes an extra minute to fully load up the phone but should help a little more with battery life (less stuff to possibly open in the background) and saves internal memory...and besides how often do you even restart your phone? not a perfect soluton but helps until we get full root

Edit: here's what I removed and everything seems pretty stable it feels a little snappier and autokiller shows more overall memory....if you know of any other apks that are safe to remove please post...and if anyone sees anything on this list I shouldn't have removed please let me know!...can't wait to get rid of sense this things gonna fly!
su
cd system/app
rm amazonmp3.apk
rm com.htc.StockWidget.apk
rm com.htc.StockWidget.odex
rm com.htc.TwitterWidget.apk
rm com.htc.TwitterWidget.odex

still nothing. Just a reboot.

Do I need other apps preinstalled first? Busybox? SU?

You need su which is installed after you temproot using visionary+ (I think its on the market for $1.99 but I found a link to it in one of the forums [might even have been this one] ill look in a lil while to see if I can find the link...finally you would need terminal emulator which is free is the market....in visionary, click run visionary.sh after root and set system r/w after root...then click temproot...once you confirm this worked and su is installed now you can click enable temproot after reboot....now after reboot you will automatically get temproot...in terminal emulator go to preferences and at the very bottom should be initial command....clear whatevers there and input everything I show in the post above (use the "ls" command to see all the apks in the system/app folder so you can pick whatever you want to get rid of or just copy paste my whole list)...that's it...now everytime you run terminal emulator it will automatically run those commands and the bloatware is gone again

Here's where I got visionary

I have term emulator already installed, I have the r14 version of visionary.

I had superuser by ChainDD (from the market installed) You're saying visionary provides its own version? If so, maybe that's what's fighting me.

thats where i got it from...just used root explorer to install the apk and that was it everything worked after that

make sure you only install visionary+ and not su....once you try to temproot su will automatically be installed...i think thats the problem compusmurf is having....already having su installed might be messing with it

new to android. I rooted with both z4root and vision +. When I go to the terminal app and type "su" I get the # sign. When I try to delete something I am told it is "Read only file system. "

what am I doing wrong. I am using android terminal emulator.

try this after you "su" but before you "cd system/app" (i believe)

Type in terminal emulator
Code:

mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p26 /system

Thanks, I was already in the correct directory. It started working for me fine last night after posting figures.

But I am finding a lot of instability in visionary +. I can't get it to reboot and reroot by itself without crashing.

How do you get your terminal emulator to auto repeat your prior commands

any help appreciated

adam

in the preferences for terminal emu go to set initial command or something like that and type

su
cd system/app
rm *whatever you wanna remove*.apk (and .odex)

obviously you need to rm each application one line at a time...but then everytime you open terminal emu it will just run that command and youre all set

DELETING (rm) SYSTEM FILES WILL KEEP YOU FROM EVER GETTING OTA UPDATES IN THE FUTURE!!!

You should FREEZE the bloat using either Titanium Backup Premium or Bloat Freezer, both available in the market.

Freezing makes the app not run and pretty much makes it invisible to your phone. You can then defrost the bloat at any time and it will be right back to the way it was.

firstly since we only have temp root, as soon as you reboot the phone all the bloatware comes back so there is nothing to worry about...secondly, the stock RUU is available to download and if for any reason you screw something up you can always flash the stock RUU and it will be like a brand new out of the box phone therefore you can get OTA updates again....third, DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY OTA UPDATES UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN POSTED HERE OR ON XDA UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE ROOT...OTA updates can wipe out root and patch up certain exploits potentially making root impossible in the future....the developers will take the OTA update and make it so it works with our rooted phones (once we get perma root of course)....so right now there is absolutely nothing to worry about
