EDIT - And it's fixed .... took the phone off the USB cable for the first time in 12+ hours (don't judge me i had a lot of work to do), gave it a reboot and whammo, no more navigator panel.

Well I ran RUU1.32.651.1.exe to get my phone back to clean, was rooting (toastcfh method) and now my phone is stuck in the car dock mode. When i reboot, opens right to the navigator panel. Hit the home button, goes right to the navigator panel, even if im on the home screen lol!! I can press the back button and get back to the real home screen but its driving me nuts.

Things i have tried without success:
Flashing toasts ROM
Flashing Flipz ROM
Flashing Keith's ROM
re-ran RUU1.32.651.1.exe
ran RUU1.32.651.6.exe

Thanks in advance.

How is the car dock mode triggered? I can't find it anywhere.

It's triggered by using a car dock (which isn't out yet). You can make it so your phone automatically switches to car dock more (navigator) when connected to a car dock. Go into your app drawer, launch navigator, hit menu > settings and you will see an option to automatically switch to car dock mode when connected to a car dock.

Now to explain why my phone was in that mode .... I was playing with some APK's in system/app to help determine which APK's can be removed without negative impact to the phones functions. Some people have reported a sync-loop after removing some APK's so I felt the need to dig deeper :)

Stuck on Navigator Dock Mode

Hi.

Did you guys find the solution? I took my phone to the Sprint store and they are as clueless as the geek squad guys.. I never did anything to my phone, perhaps i connected too long.. i'm not the tech nerd type of guy i just want my phone to work like normal...

can anyone please tell me how to get this thing to normal..
i tried:
1. navigator settings auto dock on and off and on and off, etc..
2. placing the phone next to my droid dock perhaps it would reset whatever..
3. down volumbe button and power switch, erase data, reset..
4. turned my phone off for six hours
5. dragged the phone behind my car on the way to work today *joking*

so i'm sitting here wasting corporate america time trying to resolve this issue..

thanks for any help..

I know why mine did it. I removed an APK which made the phone think every time a USB cable touched it, that it was a car dock. I don't remember exactly which APK it was but that doesn't really matter to you as it sounds like you're not rooted ... correct?

Help me understand better.
-You are running the latest OTA update? 1.47
-You are not rooted?
-Is this only happening when the phone is plugged in or all the time?
- Keep auto recognize for navigator switched to off while were working on this.
-Have you tried clearing the data in "Navigator"? Menu > Settings> Applications > Manage applications > Select Navigator (will look just like the icon, a map w/ a compass) > Select clear data ..... while your in this same screen
- Check to make sure you don't have any defaults set for navigator. If you do select clear defaults.

My next line of actions would be more in depth and with consideration to you claiming not to be a "tech nerd type of guy", you may need to return the phone but let me know how the above turns out.

P.S. thank you for searching rather than creating a new thread.

this has happened to me today when i walked into the sprint store and put on a new silicone case. i'm not rooted and the only thing that changed was that google maps had done an update just before walking in to the store. at first the home button was doing nothing but bringing up the navigator panel, now i have gotten that to quit, but the home button currently is serving no purpose when pressed. any more ideas? i already cleared the update that was downloaded by google maps...

I noticed there is a post about this issue on the HTC support forums and the only fixes listed were flash the RUU which may or may not fix it or take it to Sprint and see if they will replace it under manufacturers warranty.

A couple people had luck with the RUU, while it appears others didn't. Someone else just said it stopped happening after a couple days.

Had it happen to me today and i hit menu and went into the settings and unchecked launch automatically and then i could get to sense but still did nothing when plugged into the computer. Went into menu. Settings. Applications. And i don't remember the name right now but just force closed it and i was ok ever since

Same issue on EVO

I am having the car kit mode problem on my evo as well. It just started out of nowhere today. I have tried all of the above methods to no avail. The only thing I haven't tried is a factory reset. When I un check the "automatically turn navigation on setting" it will just make my screen flicker and nothing else. If anyone has any other ideas please help. This is driving me nuts, my phone is un-rooted and I was using launcher pro. I have also tried it using the stock sense and it does the same thing. I wish they would just let us uninstall this application. I'm not sure what that RUU fix is, does anyone have more information about that? Do u have to be rooted?

Thanks in advance,

The ruu ( rom update utility ) is reflashing the stock rom on your phone. No you don't have to be rooted but you do need htc sync installed on your computer. Just plug your phone in and double click the ruu

Can you turn off and turn back on? Pop the battery out?

I am able to turn the phone on and off. When I restart it, it automatically starts the navigation back up and gives me the navigation menu. That is if I have the "automatically switch" checked in the options. When it is unchecked the phone starts as normal. But when I am in an application I cant just go back to my home screen. The screen will just flicker when pushing home and I will have to keep pushing the back button until I am all the way at the home screen, losing everything I was doing. This is making it so it is impossible to switch back and forth from applications. I had taken the battery out for about 2 hours, then put it back in, that didn't work either. I just searched a bit for that Rom update utility but was unable to find it. I installed the Htc sync software (newest version for evo straight from htc site) and do not see that RUU option anywhere? It just has the basic sync options you would expect. I have also googled the rom update utility to no avail.

Just to confirm I have tried the following things:

Left the battery out for 2 hours
restart the phone multiple times
uninstalled all recently installed applications
forced closed navigator in the applications settings
cleared the navigator memory cache in application settings
tinkered with all of the options in the navigator settings (all 2 of them)

Thanks again.

Here is a link. Download this and make sure your phone is plugged into your computer. This will make your phone like the day you bought it so anything you have done (texts, calls, EVERYTHING) will be lost. You can use astro file manager to backup all of your apps.

Once your in sense, can you menu, settings, applications, ( whatever the name of the car dock app is), clear cache, and force close? Once its closed, and you have the automatically launch unchecked you should be good to go. But if you need to the stock rom is above

I had the issue starting Tuesday and spent an hour or two talking to Sprint & HTC. I was ready to return the phone but none are in stock at the local Best Buy.

Anyway... Randomly I used a BlackBerry branded USB cable to charge the phone from my PC. As soon as I plugged it into this cable everything was fixed. Sense seems to crash a lot but that was happening before. I had checked the pins on the phone and didn't see any issues prior to this. I'm not sure if it was the PC or the cable that fixed it. Previously I had used the factory wall charger and a car charger.

I have tried going into the application settings and force closing the "navigator" app that is popping up. Whenever I push home again it will automatically reopen it. I have also tried the factory reset that HTC said should have worked, and that still didnt do the trick. I am about to use the stock rom as a last ditch effort (thanks for posting by the way) to see if that will work. If that does not I am going to have to check warranty details or something to get a new phone. It is quite a hassle.

Thanks again for all your help, I will post back if the stock rom works.

So I tried the run update, it started out with loading the boot manager. Then I got error saying usb was not connected and it ended program. My phone is now stuck with a black screen and HTC on it in grey. I tried to unplug the usb and the screen changes to a boot type screen with Orange letters and little droids on skateboards at the bottom. I had to leave for work right now so I just left it at home connected to pc. What can I do? Does this mean im bricked? I am using win 7 64 bit if that helps. Please help I miss my phone already.

Head over to ppcgeeks and look at the evo upgrades section and the stickies at the top are all about returning to stock from rooted which is the same thing as your trying to do. All the info you need is there

So I got my phone working again. Except I am still stuck with the car dock mode issue. I am not able to run that update utility for some odd reason, I get the "Error 170 USB connection could not be established" Which is odd because I have all of the drivers, used HTC Sync and actively move stuff back and forth to phone. I have e-mailed HTC and asked about warranty information, still no word back. I am about to contact sprint next, if that will do any any good.
Does anyone have any other tips or advice for me to attempt on my own?
Anyone figure out a solid way to fix this yet?

Again, any help would be appreciated.

by chance did you root your phone???

Na, I'm still not rooted. I was just able to pull my battery out to reset my phone to get it working again. Still can't find a solution to this. I think HTC is dissing me now. The first time I e-mailed them I heard back in 5 hours. Now it's been a day and a half and counting.
