My Galaxy View 18.4" T670 is stuck in safe mode. Did not install anything, no physical damage, only noticed battery depleted and it required charging and restart. No issues with battery after that but Safe mode is turned on and won't turn off.

Things I have tried:
  1. Clicking the exit safe mode - it restarts, but goes back to safe mode
  2. Factory data reset - Bad mistake, all apps and data wiped and still stuck in safe mode, however many of the factory data apps are no longer supported such as chrome or samsung internet so many things do not display correctly or wont wrong.
Noticed also the volume down button doesn't function. Power and volume up still work fine. Seems related to safe mode issue.
  1. Opened up the case and cleaned area where button contacts but it is already clean, no debris. Still doesnt work.
Samsung wants me to send it in for troubleshooting and says it can cost up to $300 plus another $30+ for shipping. That is half the value of this tablet when it was new so not worth sending it to them.

This tablet is my life saver when making food for the lil kids so they can sit quietly and let me cook! Anyone had similar issues and how to fix it? Please help!

Hi welcome to AC!

Sound's like your going need to flash the stock firmware through Odin to see if it goes back to normal

Welcome to Android Central! Since Safe Mode is achieved by pressing Power and Vol Down at the same time while starting up, it's most likely that your Vol Down button is stuck in a pressed state (either physically or electronically). Since you already opened things up and checked the contacts, I'm guessing it's an electronic issue with the button. You may want to bring it to a local repair shop and see if they can take care of it for cheaper than Samsung.

Thank you for the advice!

I googled Odin and a few sites came up. They are not from Samsung itself. Is there a Odin site that is reputable. Afraid of downloading malware and making one problem into two.

Yes I had read that Safe Mode is activated by Power and Vol Down as well but Power button seems to function fine. If it was also stuck, I was thinking it would constantly turn off once I turned it on.

Last resort is the local repair shop, Ubreakifix, They quoted me $100 just to troubleshoot. Will research some more on self fixing electronic issue.

I was thinking that the problem is with the Vol Down button itself. If the Power button is still functional, it can still power the device on -- but if the device thinks the Vol Down button is constantly pressed, that would cause the system to think the user is trying to boot into Safe Mode.

So not sure if my reasoning is correct.
I had originally ruled out the Vol Down button being constantly pressed because if that was the case, wouldn't my volume keep going down. Right now I am able to adjust the Vol Up with the button, but use the in-screen controls to turn volume back down. I can turn volume up and it doesn't automatically get turned down as if the Vol Down was stuck pressed.

Hmm, that would seem to make sense. But the fact that the Vol Down button doesn't work at all for you seems like more than a coincidence, in relation to the tablet always booting into Safe Mode. I would still think the button needs to be addressed as the root of the problme.
