I have an OG EVO, and have been pretty happy with it. When the LTE came out, I read the reviews, watched the forums, and decided to hold off. There seemed to be quite a few issues, some small, some not so small. Some fixable with aftermarket products or hacks, some perhaps not.

I'll admit I haven't been spending a lot of time here lately, so this may be addressed already, but I didn't see it with a couple of quick searches.

Where do thing stand today? Have there been updates that address all or most of the problems, without introducing new bugs? My 4G is rooted, but if I have to install a non-stock ROM to fix the LTE's bugs I'm probably not interested. Can the current version of the LTE be rooted easily?

Any other Sprint phones, or rumored phones, that might be a better choice?

Thanks.

Almost all the problems were solved with the last update quite a while ago. It is safe to upgrade and you will probably love it :) The phone is fast, pretty, responsive, and well made. The camera is great, the battery life is wonderful. I am very pleased with the platform now.

Now if Sprint could just fix their damn network. I was in Richmond this past weekend and even after updating the PRL I was getting data errors and data rates so slow, it would take *MINUTES* just to load a simple Wikipedia page. And it wasn't just one tower. And that was with almost full bars. Sorry for the rant, but I was really pissed... I don't use much data at all, and one of the few times I really needed it, I was "stranded" for almost a whole day with almost none.

Thanks. The network situation is one thing that's got me hesitating, too. I do have WiMax in a few of my normal locations, but don't think LTE is available anywhere I frequent, yet. Fortunately I can use WiFi in quite a few places.

I second everything Crxssi mentioned about the EvoLTE. I'll add in a bit on the rooting standpoint though. Basically, it's incredibly easy, just a one click root, same for getting S-OFF. If you do get the EvoLTE (I'd recommend it), then I would advise you to browse the development threads over at Xda. I'm running MeanROM right now and loving it. Tons of battery tweaks and enhancements, some great over locking and underclocking, a nice OTA updater now, it's just overall a great experience.

Thanks. One more question. Looking back at old posts, I remembered that one big issue with the LTE was really poor multi-tasking. Has that been fixed?

There is no "broken" or "fixed", it is not a black and white, yes or no thing, but a range. Before the last update, I would rate the task-switching/multitasking at somewhere around a "D" and now a "B+", close to the behavior of the Evo 3D and Evo 4G. Most everyone would label that "fixed".

And if you are looking through the old posts, you will see I was one of the most outspoken critics regarding this issue. So if I can be mostly satisfied, that is quite an accomplishment.
