Company recently switched from Gmail to outlook. Trying to add exchange server on my Galaxy Note 9. I have successfully added the account on 2 of my coworkers phies without issue. When I try to add the exchange account to my phone, I don't get the "activate device administrator" pop up that requires you to have all of the settings prescribed by IT. It bypasses that somehow and goes directly into the native email app. My email address show up but it will not sync anything.

Any ideas why my coworkers phone gave them the device admin screen but mine did not?

I even did a factory reset just to be sure I didn't have some crazy setting checked somewhere. Still no go.

I usually have to download a Microsoft product called Intune Company Portal to complete the process of Device Administration.

I've had to do that with a different company email but my current employer does not subscribe to this. Like I stated in the OP, I set up 2 other Android phones and the device administrator popped up right away but for some reason, it will not pop up for me.. It's so frustrating. Not to mention, our IT guys are hardcore Apple fan boys and are not willing to help much.

If the issue is with your email app...maybe try using Outlook for Android...since it's a Microsoft product. I wish I could be of more help.

I appreciate the help. I have also tried the Outlook for Android app. Unfortunately, it does the same thing. I can add the account but no option to activate Device Administrator therefore no sync.

Update: I felt compelled to try again this morning and for some reason it worked out. I'm not sure if something changed on the IT side or what but all is good.

Just spoke to IT. It had to do with me having Administrative access on our facilities domain. They had to make a few slight changes and it allowed me to correctly finish the installation.

Thank you for posting this thread...
My Exchange was working no problem for months now via the Gmail app...today it randomly asked me to update my security device settings.

sure enough, it was doing exactly as you are describing. I got rid of the account and readded it, and it would simply skip the device admin screen.

what did they exactly do to fix this? it was something they adjusted on their side?

Thanks for the response.

Yes, IT said it had something to do with me being an admin on our facility domain. They had to change some settings and that allowed the device admin to pop up when installing. I didn't ask specifics but it was definitely something on the IT side.

Thanks for the response. I was able to successfully download and use the Outlook app no problem, it asked me to validate the security settings, still not triggering through the Gmail App.

IT did not seem to give me any other answer other than to DL the Outlook app, ha. I work for a big company...makes sense.
