I remember getting the BlackBerry Bold 9000 years ago and while I've always been into electronics, that phone captured my attention like nothing before it. Hours spent on CrackBerry and various forums. I even had a published article on CB. I remember Android being released. And everyone talking about the "chin" but also all of it's customizability. I was all for this new OS. When the HTC Evo was released with the red interior and camera I fell in love. I don't recall the name but there was a similar phone from HTC (The Thunder, maybe) which was Windows Mobile but with a little help from the XDA community you could dual boot Android. Custom ROMs and launchers and blah blah blah. After those devices I got my first iPhone and genuinely thought I'd never return. Everything was clean and polished and I no longer had much of an interest in playing around with the software so I stuck with Apple for years. Recently I picked up a new Xbox Series X which I haven't even opened yet because I was also talked into the Logitech G Cloud which, if you're not familiar, is a handheld gaming console but at it's core, also an Android tablet. Here I am not actually gaming on it but getting back to the hobby of it all and surfing YouTube for tips and tricks and joining subreddits. Downloading Nova Launcher onto it made me realize just how much I missed not only the hardware and software but also the communities that come along with them. Being mindful of my finances and responsibilities as an adult, I knew I wanted a new Android device but also knew I no longer simply had to have the best of the best, either. I like a camera that'll take nice pictures of my children or of my work to post on social media. But I don't need or care about megapixels. I wanted something snappy but no longer care about snapdragon benchmarks. Doing some research and coming across the Pixel 9a I was reminded of my first Google Nexus. And I was sold. A solid device running pure Android that does everything I want and saves in the few areas I could care less about. Plus this thing is an absolute beauty and sits nicely in my hand. I've already signed up for the Beta program and I'm looking forward to diving back into this great community.
