This is my first time switching carriers so I have been using Sprints REALLY bad 3G for the past couple years. With that in mind, T-Mobile is a HUGE step up. I'm loving the service I have now compared to Sprint 3G. But I was kinda expecting more. I got 4 Down and 1 Up, which isnt bad, but wasnt what I was expecting from the "42 mbps" in my area. I know it would never hit anywhere near that, but I was expecting at least 6-8 Down and 2-4 Up. Anyone else sort of disappointed by T-Mobile's service? I love the phone but I might be trying Straight Talk AT&T pretty soon.

All depends on where you are and where their towers are; try everyone and see who gives you the best service in the places you spend the most time.
I live around Washington DC, and here are the speedtest.net app results I get on T-Mobile.

There sometimes is a significant variance in the bandwidth -- not sure if it's caused by signal strength or tower load. In any case, hope your speeds improve.

Adding to this, try different spots where you live at different times and different days. Doing a couple speed tests in one location is not going to give you a realistic picture of performance.
I also just switched from Sprint. Was getting at most 500kbps down and 100kbps up, now on T-mobile I get about 4-6mbps down. It really depends on where you live. If I go anywhere that I can get four bars of signal I can pull down 20mbps easily.
T mobile is a budget rate carrier.
I am payin ~100 ish a month to use it on ATT to get better coverage and speeds no matter where i am.
