External Camera Wiring

I want to be able to plug a webcam into my N4 and an external battery that uses USB, then use the camera on my phone. There is no USB OTG hardware on the N4, so the camera will be powered by the external battery. Now, I could just buy a y-cable off of Amazon, but I want to charge my phone at the same time and have the USB OTG as part of the camera. Here's the diagram I made.

This is just taking the theory of USB OTG and throwing parallel power into the system so that it will work on the N4. Will this work and is there an easier way to do it?

Believe it or not, the Nexus4 DOES have the hardware for OTG - however the stock software does NOT support it. To get OTG running you'll need to be rooted and run a modified kernel.
