Extremely Disappointing Image Quality?

where can I find the pixel 2 camera app? do you have a link? I dont see it in the app store.

I tried a few different settings. will work on trying take some pics and post, but pics I tried with cannot be posted.

in the meantime, you can try yourself.

I found the best setting to be normal camera, wide angle not as good as main lens. HDR off, ai on.

that produces the sharpest and.best quality pic that allows zooming and still keeping a sharpness.

will try in a more real life setting and.report back when I can.

But give it a try and see what you think. Shame if this camera is really that bad.

Took it for a spin at a festival at the weekend, and the results are mixed, as a whole the camera is decent (not amazing but good) but more often then not the AI cam, when taking photos of people, make the photo far too orange and over prossesed. When taking pictures of landscape etc it can be quite nice.
It was a super sunny weekend and I'd say at least half of the 200 or so photos I took had quite bad blown out highlight.

When taking photos of sceanary I was quite dissapointed and my G4 used to do this well but the G7's photos lack detail and if it's a very green/bushy scene then its mainly just a sea of green.

Overall I'm happy enough with the camera, it proved its self in its low light shots, that I'll keep the phone but I'm still sliglty disapointed as its not the step up from the G4 I was expecting.

I've had the phone for 2 weeks now. The camera is good, but it's not great. In low-light and indoors, it's not quite as good as even my Galaxy S7 edge (focus is slower, colours are oversaturated, there is quite a delay between pressing the shutter and when it actually takes a picture, the software prefers slower shutter speeds and lower iso which doesn't work well for my uses).

The phone is fantastic overall, but it feels like a downgrade compared to my Galaxy S7 edge. Unfortunately, the camera is a deal breaker for me since I take dozens of pictures (mostly indoor, low-light) daily. If LG nailed the camera, I would be keeping the phone, but they missed the mark this time...

Wow. I would never suspect that a new device like that would have that bad of image quality. Hopefully it is a software fix with the af.

Pixel 2 app for LG... should help with photo quality.. LG provides better hardware, Google makes better software but lacking hardware. Show support and thank the developer that made it!

there's known issues with the pixel cam apps and the new snapdragon 845. A dev on the OnePlus 6 XDA forum (also has a snapdragon 845) is trying to get it working correctly. It's going to take some time. But the app definitely works great on phones with older snapdragon chipsets.

So the pixel camera software was mentioned as possibly being able to make. the G7 take better pics. Since we know that currently does not work, does anyone have any other camera app recommendations?

Agreed, I think this only works for Snapdragon 820 and 821, please wait for the developer to release an updated version! Keep checking..

There's an app called "Professional Camera HD", its free on the Play Store. Not sure if it will help but worth a shot. Maybe await an update for the software. Worst case scenario just download the Snapseed app and then increase the "ambience" levels and watch the colors get boosted. Most camera apps are using "post processing" anyways so what you see is actually automatic edits of the photo.

To those who do shoot in low-light, I think it's worth noting that the camera software prefers to set the shutter to 1/30 (or less) with a lower ISO vs. Samsung software that uses a faster shutter (ex. 1/50) and higher ISO.

The quicker shutter speed of the Samsung camera/software is much better for taking baby photos!

Also, LG's image processing is very aggressive with noise reduction and thus causing loss of detail and it creates skin tones with a pasty appearance.

The auto shutter on the G7 definitely stays open long to grab light. You need to hold steady, but it's worth it as the low light capture is better than the S9 in comparisons I've seen. Those who have trouble holding the cam still or generally find their shots blurry should get familiar with manual mode. It's set up wonderfully on the G7 and you really only need to adjust two things to get beautiful photos.

Regarding the pasty thing, I've not seen it. In fact, in comparisons skin tones were more natural. Perhaps it was due to specific lighting conditions you were under.

Ok, I'll bite. What are the 2 things we need to adjust to get good pics?

Primarily, the shutter speed. There's an auto ISO (light adjustment) if you don't feel comfortable adjusting that yourself. I personally have always found smartphones to have poor auto exposure so I like to set my shutter speed and then dial in the ISO for how bright I want the pic.

Really though, I recommend anyone who has trouble to just use manual mode when possible and play with the shutter speed. It's such an easy mode because everything can be left on auto, save for the shutter speed.
I hope LG patches the current auto mode to make it more friendly to casual users and for unexpected moments (babies, pets, etc).

Precisely! I don't have time to adjust ISO speeds and others when I'm trying to get my kids and dog to ball cooperate.

I wouldn't count on much of an auto mode improvement. Their manual mode has been awesome for years, but their auto modes have been lacking for a long time. Especially when it comes to noise reduction.

seems like whichever mode/settings I use when I zoom in the quality of the pics are very grainy. never had this issue with my Samsung phones. I feel like the camera is the biggest fail of this phone. With that sad I would never go back to a Samsung just for the camera. To me this phone is night and day so much better than any Samsung flagship I've ever had.
