In the past, you had the option to also register your face while wearing glasses. But when I just now tried to register an alternative appearance, it told me to remove my glasses, lol.

Is Android OS or Samsung claiming there's no longer a need?

I'd say that's a yes. I registered without glasses, but my reading glasses pose no obstacles. My sunglasses however must be removed.

It asked me to remove glasses after initial setup was done with glasses. Same way as with S24U.

Agreed.....I think it did a scan and then asked to remove glasses.
