I'm getting frustrated. Face unlock works some of the time. Most of the time I have to pick up the phone double tap to screen, it asked me to swipe up to unlock. I'm really starting to miss my Pixel 2 XL and it's finger unlock. I have a Fitbit, it's paired with the phone and in Security I have it set to stay unlocked as long as it sees a Fitbit and that doesn't work. I have it set to unlock when I'm at home and that doesn't work. I'm tired of holding this thing up in front of me and making it stare at me and still not unlock. Very rarely works in the dark. I've deleted the face and redid it again. Any suggestions...besides wiping my phone.

Uhmm i have the default setting enabled where it doesn't require me to tap or swipe up to unlock. Also I have the wake when it detects the phone being picked up "not the motion sense bubble that wakes up the phone when near by" matter of fact I have motion sense off since I don't use it unless I stream music to my car which is rare bc I drive about once a week at the most since I work from home. The other time I'll use motion sense is to swipe between tracks when I go bike riding but bc it's freezing I haven't done it in a while therefore I keep it off. Especially since with it on I'm constantly unlocking my phone by mistake. Having the motion sense off, wake when picked up on and not require a swipe up on my lock screen to unlock works amazing for my use case. Maybe try disabling the Fitbit feature who knows maybe it's not playing nice.

I'll try these settings. Thank you. I had Motion Sense On, the other settings the same as yours. Removed the Fitbit too.

Good luck. Yeah for me it unlocks every time. One thing you might want to consider as well maybe deleting your face unlock profile and reconfigure it in the case it doesn't have the best profile from every angle.

Coming from a 2 XL with the fingerprint unlock, I really wish my 4 XL had both. Face unlock works easily the majority of the time until it doesn't. Finger unlock worked 100% of the time.

Just give us both !!!!

I did at first as well, but now that I've been using it for over a month and got used to it I don't see myself ever wanting to use a fingerprint sensor. Hopefully you'll get used to it as well.

After using Face Unlock on my Pixel 4 XL...I can't ever see myself using my fingerprint again to unlock my phone. I have a iPhone 11 pro max as well and the Pixel 4 XL face unlock works so much better and faster than FaceID on iPhones...

I agree its faster and seems more accurate and with distance .

I probably would still prefer a FPS. A lot of times I look at my phone to view notifications from lock screen and end up unlocking the phone. But then there are times when I have notifications and I do want to unlock the phone.

Overall though, I'm happy with the face unlock. Just wish there was a better method for viewing notifications and unlocking the device.

Did you toggle skip lock screen off ?

Yes, but then I don't always want to swipe to open, which is where the FPS would be nice to indicate I want to unlock vs just review notifications.

I also miss the ability to swipe on the FPS to bring down the notification panel.

Ahhh yes , still like face id

It does take some getting used to vs a FPS. I have bypass lock screen turned off so I can quickly control my music or podcasts while in the car while it's in my phone mount.

I wear gloves at work so I much prefer Face Unlock over finger print reader, though the Pixel 3's fingerprint sensor was awesome.

I've tried all the suggestions. I'm tired of seeing "Swipe up to Unlock" and still have to type in my password. I'm within my 2-week return. Going to fire up my Pixel 2 XL and use it for a day. If I'm happy, this Pixel 4 XL is going back and I'll wait for the Pixel 5 XL.

Not really feeling it either it's great up until I am in bed. Then for some reason I need to keep entering my password more than I would like. Also most of my apps still do not support face unlock.

Also I am traveling internationally for the first time with the pixel 4 and I really miss a fps.

I've begun to notice that sometimes it takes a beat to unlock. In other words, I find myself getting a good look at the lock screen before it pops open. I guess it's processing. I have it set to go straight to the home screen.

I also use a phone with a FPS. IMHO, face unlock for the win.
