facebook contacts sync is missing from the app

A week ago all of a sudden i cant seem to sync my fb to my s6 edge contacts, when i checked the fb app settings, if you keep scrolling down the facebook contacts sync is missing from the app. I'm using an s6 as well and its there and everything is working

Hi! Same thing on my G flex 2.

It is weird, because it was there a couple of days ago. I didn't update the app neither made any change.


Did you find a solution for this?

Unfortunately not yet but what i hear is its a Facebook vs google issue

If you got root on your device, run this command from ADB:
su -c am start -n com.facebook.katana/com.facebook.katana.activity.contactsync.SyncContactsChangeActivity

This will open the contacts sync menu, it doesn't work without root (permission denied). Facebook are idiots.

If you don't, uninstall Facebook completely and install v27, where the option is visible, enable sync, sync your contacts and then update to the latest version from the play store.
If the device comes pre-loaded with a newer version of Facebook then that won't work obviously. My M7 had sync issues a few days ago and that's how I solved it (I found the intent command today after poking around in Facebook's manifest, out of curiosity, to see if they removed the intent completely).

With the new release they've removed contact sync entirely, including the hidden activities and the contact provider.

I really don't get why it was bad to have this feature, and why there was a need to remove it. I rather liked having my contacts stay up-to-date with information and profile-photos from Facebook. Same thing with the Gallery app. I used to be able to have it sync my Facebook photos, and that too was kind of handy - but that was apparently also evil, and in need of removal.

Agreed. I love that feature. On another site there was a whole procedure to roll back to an earlier build to get it back which worked for a little while and then it went away again.

Download sync.ME & ignore the crowd sourcing caller ID & spam block features (if you want). Just use the contact syncing feature (the middle tab of the interface)
