whats the difference between "Facebook for HTC Sense" and "Facebook for android"? I cant seem to find a Facebook app, so I downloaded facebook for android off the market, but whats the difference?

Same thing just different apps. I prefer the Android one over the HTC one. But maybe its bc I'm used to the Android one.

Different user interface, look and feel. The HTC one integrates twitter and FB together in friendstream. The FB for android one looks more like the FB website. I also found that the facebook for android downloaded lower res images for the contacts, so i use both...

The FB for Android app lets you choose whether you want it to sync the data for all of your FB friends or just those that are already in your phone's contact list. The FB for Sense will always sync all of your FB friends into your phone's contact list -- at least I haven't found a way to make it sync just with existing friends. I have a lot of FB friends that I rarely contact outside of FB and I don't want them cluttering up my phone's address book.

If you go into "people", hit menu, then "view", you can deselect HTC Sense For Facebook on the bottom half of the page. HTC Sense will then just link the profiles, photo's etc. for those that you have in your phonebook. Also, don't pick FB for android either, otherwise you will have all of your FB contacts on your phone contact list as well. I only sync my Google Contacts.

I think this is what you were looking for.

What do you download if FB for android isn't what you want?

I Sync FB for android in the "Sync" area in settings so i get updates, etc. I also use HTC Sense FB as well.

That's different.

However, in choosing which contacts I want on my phone under the "view" setting in "People", I don't choose FB for android. For example, I have about 400 FB friends. I have about 200 contacts in my phone (synced to Google Contacts). I don't want all 400 contacts on my phone, so I don't select FB for Android in the "people" settings. If I did, then I assume all my FB friends would be added as a contact in my phone. Too much. Don't need that mess.

I think I know what you mean. Now when you go to Phone, on the launcher, and scroll all the way to the bottom, do you only have your Google contacts or your facebook contacts as well. Because I'm in the same boat as you in which I only want my Google contacts showing (less than half) of my facebook list. But when I go to Phone in the launcher, it will show every person I am friends with on FB and I have tried multiple ways to get rid of them and can't figure it out. I feel ridiculous cause I usually can fix these sorts of things in short order. I will also add that in People, that has the list I want. And I have FB unchecked for that. But I'd like it so when I go to phone, and go to call somebody back after say a missed call, I don't have that huge list there.

Hmmm. Just noticed that. My FB contacts (that I don't want) show up in the "Phone" section of the launcher. Interesting.

I was referring to them showing up in "People", which they don't.

I just have "Google" and "Phone" checked in the "View Contacts" section under people.

Hah..mk..well I guess I am just going to be relying on the "People" shortcut. I'm glad I'm not crazy though. I felt like I was running circles around the same issue and nobody was either understanding or had an answer. Thanks for the confirmation it's not just me.

I really don't notice a difference between the two that would make me want the official app. I don't like have apps that duplicate the function of other apps and since you can get rid of friend stream I just stick with that.

I use the regular app because when you set it up you can tell it to sync only with existing contacts. Otherwise if you sync everyone it cutters not only my phone address book but my gmail as well.
I also prefer launcher pro's fb widget to friendstream.

I have the same issue's, I just decided not to sync my contacts with facebook. I have to many facebook friends and dont need them cluttering up my Phone Launcher.

I we need a fix for this :(

hmmm, i am having the same issue (fb contacts showing up in phonebook- not people) so here is what i did. ok, to get rid of the contacts in the phone book:
uninstall the facebook for android
deselect the auto-sync feature
re-install the fb for android
choose the no syncing option, not even for existing contacts.

note: i don't have the fb for htc sense active/on a home screen

edit: then i turned the auto-sync feature back on in the 'accounts and sync' window.

I use facebook for Android. It's a pity though that notifications sucks on Android. If this could be fixed - this would be the best ever. O:-)

Did you click on sync button for Facebook? I did what you did and then afterwards sync'd Facebook and got the contacts back into the Phone Book

no, i left that little circle grey-ed out. the fb widget itself still seems to be updating itself though (status wise). there is a refresh interval setting within the widget itself. i have that set to one hour (shortest is 30 min, longest is 4 hours, and then there is also a 'never' option)

I'll have to try that.

However, I'm guessing you don't have any FB profile pics pulled over to the contact info in "people" then, since you didn't sync at all. I still want to sync them. I'm trying to have them sync properly, displaying the same list in "people" and in the phone launcher.

I wonder if I try your suggestion (uninstall FB for android and unsync Sense FB) then sync Sense FB again and not Android FB. I'm curious if that will work in displaying the same list in both phone and People.

Anyone try that?

If you use friendstream and peeps, then use the HTC one.
If you root and want all the other fb stuff use the official app and delete the HTC facebook app BUT NOT FRIENDSTREAM!!

Either way both are junk.
