For the longest time Facebook messenger has been at the top of my list for battery drain and i have no idea why, I'm not even using it, is there any way to make it stop?

Disable it.

Sorry I think I should be more clear, I use messenger to talk with my friends and Co workers. It's just that on this battery cycle I didn't use it. I don't want to disable the app isn't there another way?

Messenger has been known to use large amounts of battery and data. It seems it isn't an issue they are going to fix.

I was having the same issue. Go to Settings-Data Usage. Tap the App you want to stop and scroll down to end. Turn on Restrict Data Usage. If it doesn't show up in Moble Data, it may be in Wifi. You can Restrict All from the More menu top corner but probably you don't want that. Hope it helps!

Facebook and FB Messenger are pretty much ALWAYS ON. Disabling Facebook was Step 1 for me; it helped a bit. But now that I figured out that Messenger is a battery drain too, I changed settings to have FB text me when I get a Messenger message. If you have a limited text package then perhaps this might not be an option for you; basically I get the text, then I open up Messenger in my mobile browser...

Ohh this actually sounds like a good option. Does it text you for every message you get though?? I have this one group with 6 people in it and when they start talking they send at least 300 messages in one go and I would really like to not have 300 Facebook texts in the span of 1 hour lol.

you know, i'm not sure. i haven't played with those settings enough to know how customizable they are. i also don't FB chat much so it was never a concern for me.

that said, it seems like you can customize just about anything on FB, so i'm hopeful you could make the text-msg option manageable
