Facebook Messenger not saving notification options on S10+?

Two days ago, on my S10+, Facebook Messenger started to act very buggy - wouldnt open, was very slow etc. I reinstalled it but nothing changed. I had an android update which i hadnt installed, so i installed it and it seemed like that fixed the issue, but now i have a problem with the app's notifications. I have always had it to vibrate for incoming messages. But after the update which i installed, it reverted back to the default messenger sound. Since there is no option to have a silent sound in the notification options of the app itself, i went to the phone's options and in there i put messenger notifications on silent. The problem is that the notification sound always reverts itself back to the default messenger sound and starts dinging every time i get a message. This has never happened on any other app. I tried clearing the app's cache, reinstalled it again, even downloaded the previous app version from apkmirror but still nothing works. I saw that some pixel users have had the same problem, but i couldnt find a solution. Any ideas how can i fix this?

Hi, is the permission to that app allowed for storage and such ? Long press the icon tap info scroll to permission ?

Camera, microphone and storage are allowed, but calendar, contacts, location, SMS and telephone are denied. If i allow them permission will that change anything?

Did you deny them at any point ? Wouldn't hurt to try then deny them again if doesn't work
