facebook notification sounds

this morning, around 4am unfortunately, i heard my phone make a notification sound. turned out to be facebook. thing is, i have notifications turned off for facebook. it was for a message sent to me. and then when 2 other people on it replied, more sounds.

how do i shut them if the app has notifications off? i know you can mute a conversation after the fact, but i don't want it to happen with future messages. where is the sound option?

In settings (of the facebook app, three cubes -> settings -> under notification settings) it should have ringtones, click none and maybe take vibrate off or disable messages all together

Every time the FB app updates itself, it turns notifications back on. Make sure that isn't what happened, here. Happens to me about every week, or so. Just have to keep going into the settings and turning notifications off. Hope this helps.

thanks. i double checked the settings and notifications were off. i turned them back on and changed the ringtone to silent and then disabled again. perhaps that will help.

Is it possible that it is a FB Messenger app that is causing the grief? Or, you have your FB settings (not the app, but the actual website) to notify you via email whenever someone does something, such as mentions you, tags you, etc. Check those, as well. Either way, I sure understand your frustration about being awakened at 4 AM!

i never installed the messenger app.and i only have it alerting me via email for a couple of things. plus my email notification is silent

this was a message sent on fb, which the app notified me of. weird. but i'm hoping that now that i changed the ringtone to silent and again disabled notifications it will work. before, while notifications were disabled, the ringtone was default, which is the sound i heard when the message came thru.

so i received a notification for a message, even though notifications are inactive, but the sound doesn't seem to have played.

very odd.
