facinate boot animations

You can use root explorer (download from marketplace) to go into /system/media and rename bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.old.

Then you can just place your new boot animation file, naming it bootanimation.zip into /system/media OR you can place that file in /data/local

Awesome, thank you so much, thought that boot animation was cool and it worked great, Thanks again.....

That will only work if the kernel has been built to support that. It won't work with the stock kernel, just a heads up! :)

Thanks for the heads up, I updated my kernel, and it appears to be working...Now that I have it, I think I would have rather had the Bios one that you were running....

and another thing. when i do the build your own from skywalker, only one or two work. whats up with that?

my boot animations have never worked, I've become tired of dealing with different roms, and kernals that do or dont work.

If you have an animation that's not working, make sure it's not a compressed zip file - all the images need to be zipped with no compression, I think it's called "stored", as opposed to "deflate", in zip speak. This is probably to avoid the additional overhead of decompressing the frames as they're played.

Not sure if that's the problem you're running into, but when I was playing around with boot animations, that's what I found.

ok. how do i do that.

I've noticed when flashing them via ROM Manager, the first boot up after install doesn't play the new animation for a few of them. But after the phone is back up and running, if you restart again they work from then on out.

You should be able to use any zip program, but 7 Zip works really well: 7-Zip

Not saying for sure that this is your problem, but it's worth checking. Open the zip file in 7 Zip and check to make sure the images are saved uncompressed - compare the size and packed size of each image... if they're the same, then it's uncompressed. If they're compressed, you'll have to unzip and re-zip with no compression.

when I tried the skywalker ROM's for DJ05 the boot animations never worked too well, regardless of which kernel I had.

with Super Dark DJ05 ROM boot animations are working fine, so I think it might be his ROM that doesn't play nice with the boot animations.
