Hello all guys... new Droid user here... 2nd post! This is my first smart-phone and I'm loving every bit of it! This forum is Huge and confusing... and been searching for some answers... maybe someone can point me in the right direction...

So I inherited the Desire from my cousin, and I've found the only way to get rid of his gmail/yahoo account is to Hard Reset to Factory Settings. Oh, BTW, I have a regular cell phone from Verizon to make calls/text, so I mainly use the Desire as a WiFi computer... all the apps work great...

What would I need before I reset the phone? His SSN# & phone number? Would I need to contact Cox the old phone carrier? I would like to make the phone all mine but don't mind as his sync's don't work anymore; and I have already added my gmail...

if this is too much trouble, or if there is a risk of the phone not working after the reset, I don't mind just keeping it like it is...

thanks...

Here is Cyber Warrior's response to me:

You need to go into the sd card and do that yourself.. either from the phone or computer .. or just re-format it.
Welcome to Android Central.. enjoy the forums.. a good place to start is in the General Help and How To forum.. link is in my signature.

thanks Cyber Warrior... so yeah, my cousin already cancel his plan with Cox, the phone itself doesn't work... I don't want to activate it, I don't have Cox and I don't want another contract plan, I love using it just as it is... if I do want to make a phone call, Skype works just fine...

I found the Factory Reset, so thanks for that again... the SD card is formatted, so I'm good there... so what are the prompts when I reboot... will the phone ask me for a Cox phone number? Am I able to skip that prompt? Or will the phone not let me bypass that prompt, that is my main concern, with anyone who has ever Reboot...!

Especially peeps with the Desire, but if anyone uses Cox here in Southern Cali to better...

So, I'm sure I'll be able to use my default Gmail I'm not too worried about that, mainly if the phone will not work right without a phone number destination, and of course my cousins SSN#...

thanks

Your phone should be allright. It will wipe the application user settings, and any garbage that was there, along with probably contacts (if kept in phone memory).

Question is, is this Desire a GSM? Sim card? If so, the phone should boot just fine, although you will get a "no signal" message, and will probably work it in "offline" mode. But, I suspect the WiFi should still function as it is not carrier specific.

You'll maybe have issues getting applications from the Android Market though, as you'll not have a connection unless it works with WiFi.

The desire is really a great phone. You should consider "unlocking" it, and give it a ROM flash to get rid of the Cox junk.
