Does a system reset or restore, which ever one will return a mesmerize to the way it was when the uscellular representative handed it to you with no user installed apps, just your phone number and ready to make phone calls????

It depends on what uve done to it since uve gotten the phone. If all that's been done has been user app downloads, light phone personalization ( that which doesn't require root), and 'regular' use, than a factory reset should take u back to the way it was when u bought it. But if uve rooted your phone, then u need to remove superuser, and anything else that u may have put in permanent folders. If uve flashed a different ROM, then ull need to find the exact ROM u had before u upgraded, and flash it back to original.

No rooting on this phone so that is good...

Big question still remains. Will it wipe my phone number and uscellular settings out of the phone? Or will it just back back to the way it was when i got it. I understand that the restore/reset will remove all customization and programs just the fine points i need answered now i guess

Are you talking about removing the number associated with your phone? So that it doesn't have a number associated with it? If that's what your asking, then no, factory reset will not do that. I don't know how to do that, short of taking it in to a store.

QFT.

I was doing factory resets every 15 minutes when trying to root my Mesmerize.
I finally decided I'm keeping it stock because I'm upgrading to the S3 when US Cellular has their Thanksgiving sale.

Essentially with a factory reset you're going to be using the phone you had when you opened the box.
Your number and US Cellular service are still the same. Only thing I'm unsure of is the content on your microSD.
