Factory Reset

I've seen the posts here for restoring your phone to it's original state that involve using odin and downloading files, etc. but what about the procedure to do a factory reset, the procedure where you power off and power on holding the down volume button etc. ?

Doesn't that take me back to where it was when I got it right out of the box, before I rooted in and hacked out Google, applied the lag fix and so forth?

I'm no expert but to my knowledge there is no completely intact "factory" image on the phone, the factory reset assumes you have all the binaries intact and it goes through deleting any personal information and configuration settings. Therefore, it won't have the effect you desire with regards to undoing the rooting/lagfix/etc. I haven't tried it, but I believe the process you are interested in would be step 1: install "factory" ROM via rom manager, step 2: install "factory" flash via Odin. Both of these are available for download, let us know if you need further details.

Yup, the built-in factory reset just clears out all the user data. If you've flashed new roms/kernels/recoveries, they'll still be there. To really get back to stock, there's Odin flashable files floating around for all the parts - kernel, recovery and system, but the system is still rooted, so you'd have to flash all that stuff and then remove root.

OK. Thanks guys for the replies. Now here's my current problem. Using the links found here on the forum I've been able to download all the files except for this one...

Stock-i500-VZW-System.tar.md5.

The download starts and hangs. Does anyone have an alternate location where I might get this?

I did the volume up down power method on mine while rooted and debloated and it bricked the phone. Free replacement though. Just a PITA to have to go to the store to get one. Still easier than fighting with it to get it back to working order I thought.

No need to return your phone to get the software back to stock. Just use the procedure in this thread - only takes a few minutes and it will be like new.

I've considered that but the problem I'm having is that the links for the /system file (second of the two links) doesn't exist or in another link I found the download keep stalling.

I just did the hard reset and it does appear the my phone is "bricked" also. It will power up but I'm getting flooded with error messages that repeat after I clear them. So... a trip to the Verizon store may be my only option.

Sounds like the force close loop of hell. Check out the sticky in the ROMs/hacks forum to fix that

Yeah that's what I got. Like I said I just didn't want to bother with it anymore. I only did the factory reset to try to fix other issues. No problems at the store. I showed them what it was doing and said I already tried a factory reset and the guy just turned right around and got a new phone. Didn't even ask/try to troubleshoot anymore.

Exactly what I just did. No more rooting for me until after we get version 2.2. Which, by the way is kind of a bummer that we're still waiting for that while now everyone's buzzing about 2.3. Are we always going to be over one release behind??
