Failed update

Hi guys.
I have a Gear S2 that I had paired with my S7 and it has always worked fine. I put it in a drawer for a couple of months after getting a new phone, and recently pulled it out and got it going again after purchasing an S9. I reset the device and it paired with the S9 just fine. However, I am getting an update notification and have been trying to push it through to the watch over the last few weeks, but it refuses to install. The file downloads to the phone and starts the update process on the watch, but it crashes on the watch when it gets to around 12% installed. I've attempted this around 20 odd times, and even reset and paired it back to the S7 in case that made a difference, but to no avail. When the watch restarts it says the update has failed and to try again later.
Any ideas on what might be going on?
