Hey guys I'm about to buy a galaxy s3 of kijiji. I know its not the best place to get it from but these phones are frikkin expensive so have to deal with the used ones. I was wondering if you guys can help me make a list of items to check to differentiate between the real and the fake galaxy s3? It would really help if I knew the exact difference between those two. The seller also posted up a few pictures. I'll upload them as well.

I've just watched many videos on how to determine if it's a fake, and from what i see in the pictures you posted, it looks legit. The reason I say this is the samsung logo on the top is very close to the ear piece, where as the fakes it is lower as the screen is a little shorter.

They say the fakes also use raised samsung logo text, but you cannot tell that without actually handling the device. Software-wise, most of the fakes use the actual samsung firmware, so you cannot tell anything from within in the software (outside of spotty performance and random lockups).

Here in Thailand, they love fake hand sets. Their display model is real, but the customer gets the fake, and at premium prices - $500 - $600 bucks.

Note: There are very good fakes that are almost perfect, and need dismantling in order to verify. The best bet is to run benchmarks, as most fakes use sub-par processors or GPUs

If you are buying a carrier specific like Verizon, att, etc, go to a corporate store and run quadrant. It will tell you all the specs of the phone, then run the benchmark. All the specs and benchmark should be similar to the phone you are about to buy. Also, if it is carrier specific(which you can also tell in quadrant) , go to a corporate store to verify that the phone has a valid imei

Sent from my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

That's not an authentic flip cover, that's for sure. Hold on the side for volume rocker, and italic III on the back should tell you that. As for the phone, it looks believable enough, but is that the only picture he sent you? Date Jan 1st? Would it be too much to ask to have him send you a few more pictures of the phone itself? Maybe a picture from the 'about phone' menu showing what version of android the thing is running....
