Fanboyism ?

Technically since the nexus is the only phone Google makes it would be a flagship for them.

Galaxy nexus is an awesome phone.... But mine is already up for sale. I'll be using the S3 til I know for sure the price and what this is packing and I will most likely get it ASAP.

Right so there is a case to get one? Is it a bit fanboy? I know people that have got the iPhone 5 too replace the iPhone 4s. I don't get it? If the phone is already heart why spend the money to get one that is slitly better? The iPhone fanboys are spending a fortune to get what really does the same thing. I laugh at them Pratt's and I don't want to be a fanboy that will spend a fortune to get the lg nexus that will do the same as the Sammy gnex does now. Or I'm I not getting the point and been old. :p lol

What does a phone need to be made out of to not feel "cheap" I've owned 3smart phones and they all felt the same. Maybe I'm a cheap person. But its really hard to compare build quality in two device that are months/years apart. My galaxy nexus is great with signal and GPS. Its not the same with everyone.

I'm not a fanboy (own ipad and i4s) but I prefer a nexus just because I would like a stock phone with out rooting.

I'm not going to judge it until I at least know the final specifications, and until people have the release version in their hands I think their opinions about it are hardly worth the bandwidth it takes me to view their comments. Of course, that won't stop me from enjoying the nerd rage in the meantime.

I think the above poster is correct, It's hard to answer your question until we see the final specs of this device. I think more importantly is the price point in which to get one. If you are selling a Nexus at $250 and replacing it for $400 and only paying $150 out of pocket for mostly a top of the line device that should have not many problems over the next year, then yah I think there is a case to be made that it might be worth paying money for.

I think there are points on both sides of the argument here, the Galaxy Nexus is a great device...it has an awesome feel to it(love the backing), and I never rly had a problem with GPS/signal. There are times when it seems or is faster than my S3, plus it'll get the updates also. I don't think you "need" to upgrade during this. Most ppl should actually be on a 2 year upgrade program unless you are a phone whore like I am.

There might also be some new feature added with this. Like NFC was a cpl years ago. We don't know about that yet, so its hard to judge on that.

But imo you don't have to be a fanboy to sell the old one and upgrade to this, on the flip side if you are happy with the Galaxy than I don't think its a requirement either to jump on this.

Another factor I think would be based on which network you are on....if you are on prepaid and paying half what real ppl do for their service then I think its a little bit better to upgrade rather than needing to pay Sprint/Verizon/ATT another $550-$650 for this Nexus.

HTC really is making the best phones now.. Last year was terrible on them. Im waiting to see what google says at the end of the month. If I don't like it or its that ugly LG Nexus I think i'm going to jump on the One X+. I won't be losing out on any updates because I will be keeping my GNEX and switch phones as needed. It's really unfortunate that HTC, Sony or Moto wasn't chosen, instead we get LG. Alot of the people on the forums are acting like the Apple fanboys. I say this because its gotten to the point where they will accept and buy any Nexus phone no matter what it looks like and what it's lacking. I could be wrong and this is why I said i'm going to wait till the Google announcement. LG kept the same front as the GNEX but made the back even more plain and ugly. Looks like a black slab glued on to a pretty front.

Maybe, but just like Apple fanboys...We don't have much choice. How many vanilla Android phones are made nowadays? If you like the software you have no choice than to either keep the GNex or get this new one. That said....I like LG quite a bit. I've always maintained that the LG Optimus being one of the better phones I have ever used and that was a low end phone. The screens on my Marquee are amazingly decent for a fairly low end phone also and I can see this being better.

So is there ppl who buy this simply because it says Nexus? Probably. Others will buy it because its the best phone they think is available for their needs. Not everyone games on their phone or stores music so 8GB for them is sufficient.(even though I doubt we will see an 8GB version) But at this point its hard to say if there are in fact iSheep like ppl since nothing is official enough to say they will buy it no matter what Google says.

But I'm curious.......How will you deal with a micro sim vs a regular sim? Have you ever tried an adapter? I'd like to find a decent adapter that works but the ones I've tried in the past just do not work well enough and are a pain.

Is a nexus really worth it if you root? I love nexus devices. I just feel like getting a phone and putting cm10 or aokp and you have the same thing but more options. What I mean is if you end up missing sense or tw you can always download a different ROM.But a nexus its really hard to tell the difference in a custom ROM. So if you buy a nexus and you end up missing sense or tw you are out of luck. But at least with the one x or s3 you can have best of both worlds.

Buddy of mine says the same thing. I personally rarely root, I did my Nexus simply to try out a few roms. But for the most part I just use a custom launcher and design my phone that way.

If you want the update in full working order day 1 then a Nexus device is basically a must. But eventually the ROMs for the others catch up and you can have vanilla just fine on the device.

I personally don't like too much about the oem skins other than maybe their lockscreens. So it doesn't bother me not having that feature. But you are right....if you root and rom your phone its not overly important to have a Nexus device.

True i've just always want to have a factory stock Android OS phone. But again like I said I think Google is taking a step backwards with this design. As far as what woosh said, you are right, we don't have much of a choice but if people didn't buy it, it might help Google realize people don't want it.

I am not married to any specific OEM. if you compare the G nex to the nexus 7 it is pretty clear that several OEM can produce an amazing nexus device. I was fortunate to get a g nex that has no signal issues and have never had a problem with the glass not being branded gorilla glass. I love my g nex but yearn for a newer and faster version with a better camera. If the LG nexus comes out with 4G LTE and 32gb i will likely buy it despite the fact it does not have a removable battery. While it is not ideal, you could buy one of those pocket charger things if you are ever getting low and dont have access to a charger. Not having an SD slot is not a big deal provided it has ample on board storage.

Why do nexus phones have to be affordable? I would gladly pay $400+ with contract to have ALL of the best hardware available at the moment. Is it too much to ask for a premium device with the best specs and having it not run some bloated OEM skin of android? With that being said, I simply do not believe that google will not release a LG nexus with more storage and LTE for the US market. If they don't then they are making a huge mistake.

Apparently its a sin to expect top hardware in a non-bloated phone with pure Android. People keep saying that the whole point of the Nexus is for pure Android and for top optimization but after all the complaints came rolling in about radios, gps, sound etc I just didn't see this top notch optimization in the GN.

Amen brother.. and how about google sorts out the basics like reception, camera and group SMS on stock android / nexus devices before adding useless features like face unlock and 3d maps.

This thread = tl:dr

I did get about halfway down the first page and really got the impression that people were missing something with their analysis of the GNex 'attractiveness' when comparing it to their enthusiasm, or lack thereof, for the LG Nexus.

Short version: it's the software, stupid.

Longer version: the leap between GB and ICS was really big, whereas the jump from JB 4.1 to ... erm ... JB 4.2 (?) is likely to be barely noticeable. It is this fact that I think clouds people enthusiasm for the LGNex. Everyone was buzzing about ICS landing with the GNex (not to forget that the GNex got JB goodness too - which increased our love for the device). That excitement just wont exist this time. In that respect it seems that LG was sold a bit of a lemon. Or perhaps Samsung conveniently dodged a bullet, aiming instead on securing the Nexus build for the next major OS jump.

Another thing, that is maybe just my personal impression, but I have never really seen the Nexus devices as 'flagship' phones in terms of hardware. The only thing on the GNex that was better than it's contemporaries was the screen resolution. They just never seemed to be intended to be the all-singing all-dancing best phone that a manufacturer could produce at that time.

Anyway. That's my two pennies.

This guy gets it. :)
Not really, he is still attacking opinions.

To really get it, one would have to admit people have different opinions and buy phone for different reasons. Some people buy phones for a name (nexi, iphoney, etc), some hardware, some software, some for the carrier. We all have bad experiences, and good ones that drive our decisions.

Expecting rationality on the Internet is irrational.

You just said above that you have the VZW Nexus. Take it up with VZW, they are the ones that require CDMA radios. The GSM Nexus has no major reception problems and the GPS is rock solid.

The problem isn't VZW, I can be in the same place with my friends, one has an iPhone, one has a RAZR, and they both get better reception than me. And Samsung didn't get a rep for poor radio quality from me alone, it's a widespread issue.
