Fascinate (CDMA) Battery vs. Vibrant/Captivate (GSM) Battery

I have heard more than once that GSM radios require less battery than CDMA.

If this is indeed true, then if the GSM version of the Galaxy S is only getting 6 - 8 hours with heavy use, is it a fair assumption we could see even LESS performance on the CDMA version of the Galaxy S?

I'm a bit concerned about the battery life overall, mainly because I am currently playing with a Captivate, and my real life experience for the first full charge is 8 full hours with having barely put it down.

I do expect the 8 hours to increase with subsequent charges and less handling of the phone, but in general, do we need to prepare ourselves for the possibility that the CDMA version of the Galaxy S may not last as long as the GSM version (with identical usage)?

I have little knowledge of this issue(Battery usage on CDMA vs GSM).

What I can say is the captivate tends to have great battery life.

You appear to be new to the Android platform.

I suggested ways for user to decrease lag and increase battery life in this post.

Please let me know what apps you are using while having barely put it down.

I actually think 8 hours for constant use is good. I've downloaded Weatherbug elite, set it up to update every 2 hours and have the small widget, but I didn't put that on til about 2 hours ago. I did have a friend feed widget but since removed it...it pulls in all the Facebook "game" crap so don't need to see that. But that was on there for about 4 or 5 hours. I've viewed a few YouTube videos, downloaded and checked Twitter. I've streamed a police scanner, listened to Slacker Radio, and downloaded the full version of Docs to Go (but haven't used it yet). I've been on Gmail and regular e-mail all day, as well as Google Talk. I've also been surfing the Internet off and on.

I'm at 8% now...so looks like I'll get 8.5 hours out of a full charge with "non stop" use.

Oh, I do have the Daily Briefing widget active. It's not even able to pull in weather right now so not sure it's really adding any value.

So to clarify, as of right now I have 2 widgets set up...Daily Briefing, which I don't see a way to control how often it updates, and Weatherbug Elite that I have set up to update every 2 hours.

I'm just wondering if I'll be able to do all that on a CDMA device with the same results. IF what I've read is true about GSM radios requiring less power, I'm concerned. I honestly don't know if there's any truth to the GSM versus CDMA power consumption thing.

Oh, and by the way this is only the first full charge on the battery. Waiting for it to die now so I can fully charge it for the 2nd time.

Is the heavy use normal for you or do you imagine you will start using the device less often after a week or two. When playing with my first new Android device I couldn't put the device down and did not consider memory or battery management. I was upset at first but after a week or so I realized I wasn't using the device as much as when I got it. I then realized I was seeing greater overall battery performance.

I then learned about memory management on this device and then I learned that having too many apps that have auto updates will be inefficient and decrease battery life. Also, any device used to watch too much video will suffer battery performance.

Many tricks you learn along the way. Report back after a week or so and let us know how your battery management is going.

I expect my use to go down...although admittedly up until now I was on Verizon which I don't get very good reception at work, and the AT&T Captivate I'm using right now actually does get decent reception. However I think the fight to get a signal versus more use will "counter" each other out. In other words, I may actually use this more at work, but it won't be using any more battery than my Verizon phone fighting to find a signal.

Anyway, I expect that when the newness wears off I won't be using it as much, but I AM and always will be a heavy user. I used my Storm off and on all day for all kinds of things and I would expect I would end up in the same place with Android.

I really just wondered if anyone was concerned if CDMA radio version of Galaxy would get worse battery life due to CDMA radios needing more power.

I guess when the Fascinate finally comes out we'll learn real quick.

I appreciate your help but it's not the point of my thread. I don't want to be tied to chargers everywhere I go.
