Fascinate Froyo Speculation and Rumors

Wow.. I'm blown away by how many people are willing to immediately believe that this means an official Froyo release for the Fascinate is imminent. I won't enjoy watching the cycle of disappointment again, but it'll be clinically interesting to watch it play out.

In approximately 2 weeks, some of you will begin to question more vociferously what the hold-up is on VZW's end, and you'll cite the Samsung source release. In 4 weeks, some will again be openly questioning whether an official Froyo release is coming at all, and you'll point to the released source code and be unable to make sense of what's happening to you. In 6-8 weeks, the noise and anger levels will ramp up considerably, and by about the end of week 8, there'll be another mass-exodus of Fascinate owners who had their hopes shattered yet again.

Mark my words: There will. not. be. an official Froyo release for the Fascinate. That doesn't mean we won't HAVE Froyo: the dev community is working miracles, and we can be thankful for the "leaked" versions that are being provided by Samsung. It's not necessarily that big a deal, frankly, other than that we have to void our warranties in order to upgrade. But there will be no official update from Verizon Wireless, and you can come back and cite my posts next year if you'd like. I promise not to say I told you so. :p

You obviously have some inside information. Otherwise you wouldn't be so adamant that this will never happen. Which I don't understand.

I don't care if they officially release it or not. SuperClean is awesome! Thanks guys..............

What about the accessories that have been and are still being sold that says right on the package "not fully functional until 2.2 update" or something to that effect?

Well let me be the anti-Tarrant and say that Verizon WILL release a 2.2 upgrade for the Fascinate. And it will be soon.

If you understand the relationship and legal agreements between carrier and manufacturer, you know how significant the source code release is.

Are you psychic?

I know what you mean but this IS the speculation thread...

Some of you guys have been very helpful for me, and I always make sure to hit the "thanks" button, but I think its time for a "No Thanks" button for some of the doomsayers that obviously dont have much else going on in their lives except touting their personal opinions like its proven science...

At this point, Tarrant's "vision" of how it will play out is closer to being accurate than many others. How many were sure that an OTA would be announced on Monday after the source code was released?

Look, I don't know if or when we will get Froyo and Verizon's not talking. In the mean time the speculation, conspiracy theories, and insider information are all we got. Right or wrong, I want to hear it all cause it's a lot more fun than silence... :D

I don't know if anyone was "sure" that an OTA would be made available Monday. I think people were just going off of a previous release. When source code was made available for the Epic 4G it was on a Friday, and Sprint began pushing the OTA late on a Monday. While we can use that as a general guide, we are talking about two different carriers, one of which is notorious for delaying updates. So the best we can do is think that the OTA is coming, we just don't know when :)

Same here...I check in on this thread everyday, just to see what folks are thinking and feeling and saying about this issue. We could use this soap opera to replace the ones disappearing from the networks. That IS the silence to which you are referring, right? ;)

No Gingerbread for Galaxy S Phones..???

If you thought you would be lucky to
get Gingerbread on your Galaxy S
soon, but you are out of luck here.
Vodafone UK has announced that Samsung has stopped the roll out of Gingerbread update for all versions, so telecom operator?s version will also not get the update. There is no specific reason cited for
this halt in update roll-out. We hope
that Samsung comes out with a official
statement on this and clear the air
regarding update schedule

I'd settle for Froyo, personally, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think most of the blame for Froyo goes to VZW, but I have had some questions about Samsung's commitment to product support, which is why I wouldn't and won't buy one of their tablets. This post, if true, just confirms those suspicions.

How is Tarrant's "vision" closer to being accurate? He said NEVER, the Fascinate Froyo update is NEVER going to happen. Even if the Froyo update for the Fascinate doesn't come out for another 1,000 years. Those select few who actually thought the Froyo release would happen yesterday would still be more accurate than Tarrant. The difference between one day and 1,000 years is still more accurate than the difference between 1,000 years and NEVER.
