What does my thunderbolt do with fast boot on vs not having fast boot on? Just curious.. is it really any faster?

Mine takes 2.5 minutes to the VZW data/voice signal and is ready for use. Prolly about 1.5 only to the lock screen, like yours. Never thought of timing it that way. Over a hundred apps here.Never tried fast boot as I prefer a full boot up to ensure a fresh running system. I never saw much benefit anyway since my Thunderbolt takes 1.5 minutes to boot to the lock screen (timed it with a stop watch). It's kind of slow for the next 30 seconds as it finishes booting up, but it's still useable. Not sure why some take a lot longer. I've always run the stock, unrooted software, but highly limit installed apps (approx. a dozen total), so not sure if that has anything to do with it. I don't think so as I remember others who have a lot of apps say theirs boots fairly quickly as well.
I'm at about 300 apps and most of them are on my SD card.. could that be an issue to the slower boot?
Also, if you shut your phone off completely and want to go into the BOOTLOADER (volume button down + power button), if you have FAST BOOT on, you can't....well, at least I haven't been successful at it. If you use ClockWorkMod you can.
