Android Central Question

My phone is about a year old and I thought previously that the charging port was damaged and now I'm pretty sure it is. The first time I had a lot of dust in the port and it would barely cable charge at all. Got it cleaned up then it worked fine for a bit. Fast wireless charging works fine so I'm lead to believe it isn't a battery issue. The fast charging is enabled on the phone before anyone suggests that. The cable is in the phone and charger securely. It will say fast charging for just a few seconds depending on how I put the cable in and only seems to work on one particular side of the USB C cable. Then it will act like I unplugged and plugged back in really fast and say cable charging. So does anyone have a suggestion besides going to the store other than what Ive already listed?? Thanks

Have you tried a different cable/charger combo? If the cable is damaged or the charger itself isn't working properly, Fast Charging is the first thing to 'go'. Since the Note 7, charging circuitry security was pumped up so any tiny changes in expected voltage/current levels or impedances, and the phone defaults to either standard charging or no charging at all.

It sounds to me as if the charging port is damaged or not completely soldered in (a pin got loosened from use). In either of those cases, it would have to go to a repair shop.

I had similar issues with my S8 Plus. I purchased a new USB - C cable and the problem seems to be solved. As I recall I had the same problem with my Note5.
