Fast Charge only with included cable?

Actually cheap wires ARE still a fire hazard (sure, they'd have to be VERY cheap) but using the wrong gauge wire could cause overheating, or insulation to melt and cause a short/spark and some cables have been known to have very cheap connector terminals, which in turn cause damage to the phone's charging/USB port.

Doesn't mean that the 'worst case scenario' will happen, but yeah, danger is there.

I mean, I can't remember who it was, but someone at AC almost burned down his shiny new Pixel Chromebook because they used an USB-C charger from a phone from another company.

Update: popped into the Verizon store to check out the phone. It's fine, the cables have some issue.

I will get a refund from Amazon, thanks to all that contributed.

As an engineer who as actually tested for how much heat is generated through undersized wires, it just seems unlikely that this would happen as the wires are already quite small. The heat load would be spread over the length of the wire so the actual temperatures tend to remain small. A more likely scenario would be if a point in the wire is compromised and the cross sectional area becomes very small (pinched wire) and all the resistance occurs at that point. But this could happen to any size wire and wouldn't be a function of simply being a cheap wire.

Or it could be an issue with the phone itself. I'm having the same issues with my note 8 for the last 6 months. The only thing samsung will do to try to fix it is if I send them my phone for evaluation which will take 11 to 20 days. When I asked what am I supposed to do without my business phone for 2 to 3 weeks they said to, get this, buy a new phone!
So when I asked why should I bother to send it in if I buy a new phone she didn't have an answer. So what I've got here is a $900 paperweight!
Moral of the story GET ON THEIR CASE NOW and demand a replacement before it's to late.

I use oneplus 6 cable with my note 8 but it does not fast charging. But for the cable included from the phone does.
Note: samsung fast charging adaptive brick+oneplus 6 cable

I just got the Note 9 yesterday and Fast Charging only seems to work with the cable that came with the phone. I recently ordered a five pack of AGVEE cables from Amazon which worked fine with my S8+ and Fast Charging. I also have some older cables and they too won't allow the phone to fast charge.

Do I just need higher quality cables or stick to Samsung branded ones? I chose these cables because of the high Amazon rating, but obviously the phone doesn't like them.

Also, this happens with the supplied charger or an older generic one. It will Fast Charge with the Samsung cable and the generic charger, just not with the third party cable.

I had the same problem with the S8 and aukey type C cable after installing an OS samsung update but solved it.

if fast charging is not working with 3rd party cables on the S8/S9... sometimes it is due to upgrading the android OS update or wiping the cache partition

1) disconnect the cable
2) go to settings battery , press the 3 dots at the upper right corner
3) turn off fast cable charging option
4) plug in the cable
5) disconnect the cable
6) go to the same settings again and enable fast cable charging option
7) plug in the cable

It should work now

I assume, another fast charge OEM charging block was tried using the cable in question? :)
