Faulty charger?

My brand new Nexus 6P with its Huawei charger is showing weird behavior. Whenever I plug in the phone, the battery indicator shows the charging sign but the phone isn't actually charging. The battery settings menu shows 'not charging' even though the charge bar underneath is going green (indicating the phone is charging). Then randomly it will start charging the phone just fine. The lock screen will show 'rapid charging' (previously it showed nothing) and the battery menu will say 'charging on AC'.

I have tried to swap the cable but it made no difference. However it works perfectly fine on my 12-inch MacBook charger. It charges slow (1.5A) but I don't see any such behavior.

Is it safe to assume that you are also using the Huawei cable that came with your 6P?

Do you have a case on your phone? If so, it may be interfering with the cable fully seating in the phone's port. Try taking the case off and see if you have different results.

Used both cables. The one that came with the phone and the one that came with my MacBook.

My next question would be have you tried different outlets in your home?

But my gut tells me to try to exchange it with Google, especially if you've only had it a short time. In fact, if you have had the phone for only a short time and it's acting weird when it comes to power issues, I would want the phone and the charger replaced - all of it.

Tried different outlets, same issue. I have tried several other chargers such as a Samsung 2amp one or an HTC 1.5amp one and they all seem to charge just fine (just not the speed of 3A)

Did you confirm that it is not a matter of case interference with the connector?

USB-C cables are totally different from Micro-USB. Proper ones are "active" and include a chip with an ID function which the device uses to determine the connection state and how much power to draw and on which pins. If you are not making a positive and full connection on all pins, the results will vary.
