February Security Update

Hopefully it fixes the LTE issue last months created

I don't think the security updates are there to fix feature issues. More to just patch...well..security

Yes. as nscian12 said. It only patches security holes.
We will have to wait until next Android's update (maybe 6.0.2?) to see any fixes if any.

Hold on, security update 6.0.1 corrupted a setting that had nothing to do with security, I am sure that they can fix it in a security update or at least I hope they do!

This is not always the case. If it is a big issue they may save for another version (like 6.0.2) but minor things that can be fixed on the go get tossed in there as well. Russell explains more on this below.

Well. The update to 6.0.1 was not really considered a 'security update' per say, it may have just been coincidence that it was rolled out along with a security update. 6.0.1 was a system update "OS update" to bring more emojies and obviously messing up other things like LTE connectivity on certain carriers, etc. Typically monthly security updates won't change the software version number, thus why I think that security updates are just that... As Almeuit said, there may be other things as well, I just don't know.

Just flashed it and I'm all set. Nothing beats being able to update on day one of release. Oh sweat sweat Nexus life ;)

Yeah that's what I like. I downloaded from Google. Took less than 5 min and then fastboot. All set in less than 10 min. Rooted again after and flashed my kernel :).

That was a full-on point release of the OS that also happened to include the January security update. It was the point release that introduced the bug. They won't fix it until 6.0.2 comes out, if it's on their radar of bug fixes (it better be).

February security update

Google posted the February security update a few days ago on Feb 1. I'm not entirely sure how they roll out the update, but last month I didn't get it for a least a week. Can anyone clue me in?

What I don't understand is why, even when I manually check for updates, it comes back with nothing. At least under Windows, I can manually grab updates. With Android, it seems that my security is less important than other peoples'.

Re: February security update

It does seem that way. Makes no sense to me that I can't force an update. Come on, this is Google, with acres of servers.

Re: February security update

You can always manually download and install, if you are impatient. A couple of reasons I've heard for the slow rollouts are 1) that Google rolls out the updates to minimize any slow down of their servers, as well as to keep networks from being slowed and 2) if a problem not caught in testing is found, Google can suspend the update before a majority of users have an update that "kills" their phone.

yeah one of my biggest gripes about this phone brah. I bought a Nexus phone for the first time to be done with the torture of the Samsung slow updates, while this is even more torturing knowing that there IS an update yet you don't get it. Last month I got mine like 20 days after some d00d announced that he juts received it. This waves roll out is pure BS and makes having a Nexus phone to be the first to have updates a m00t point. Meh.
