Fed up with Thunderbolt

Do you think the iphones don't have problems? I see them come in more than the thunderbolt. Most people who go from a android device to an iphone end up jailbreaking it, because it lacks what android does best. I've owned both devices and I will never go back to an iphone.

I'm frankly that you came from a DX and do not find the improvements satisfactory. I loved my DX and everything that it did the TB does better. Battery life is a tab bit worse (b/c of 4g and I have wifi on at work) but no FC's or reboots.

My DX couldnt multitask as well and it FC'd a ton of stuff (unrooted and rooted). I will go as far to say that the stock TB is better than a rooted DX. Just my opinion. and I know that haters going to hate.

I am somewhat in the same boat as the OP but my solution will be different. I have had the TB since it came out and at first it was really nice. When everyone else started having reboots and issues I didn't have those. But over the last few weeks I've started getting daily reboots, reboots when answering calls etc. I have to say that right now I do really hate the Thunderbolt!

I will be dumping it as soon as I see another android phone that I really like. I know that sounds a bit crazy but the TB has some great features and if it weren't for the constant reboots I would keep it. On the other hand, I have had an iphone and there's not a chance in hell that I would go back to that. I just want to move on to another android phone that will give me good, steady, reliable service, has 4.3 inch screen and is not made by Samsung! :)

I looked at the lG Revolution but just couldn't warm up to it. I figure that within another three months or so there will be another two or even three choices to consider and then I'll take a look at those.

I went from a Droid X, to the bolt, and wished I would have waited to get the bionic. At first I loved my bolt, even though I have to carry it around with the extended battery to get through a night at work (the stock x battery lasted almost all night). Then after the update I have had the random reboots, sometimes as many as 6 in the span of 3 hours, once right in the middle of a call. Then my messages app started to lock up and not me do anything for 10-15 minutes till I could get it to force close. Fed up I finally rooted it, and installed BAMF 3.0 RC4, and the MR2.5 Radios, and I am still having reboots, although not as often. Hopefully VZW or HTC will get us an official GB update soon and fix the damn issues. I'll try to hold out another month, but once the Bionic hits, I may jump back to the moto bandwagon, or if they come out with a LTE iPhone, then I shall go that way.

To each his own, I guess. IMHO, there is no smartphone that comes without problems. The question is, which problems you are ready to deal with. My smartphone history consists of BB Storm 1 + 2, Samsung Fascinate, LG Ally (briefly) and DInc (briefly). I am a power user, so I carried spare batteries around with each of my smartphones. And my satisfaction with the smartphones that I own has grown with each one. I have either found a way to solve or deal with the problems Thunderbolt has had or I have learnt to live with it. In a nutshell, I love my Thunderbolt. There is nothing that is significantly lacking to make me wanna go to another device. But again, if you don't like it, there is no reason you should stick with it. Some like daytime soaps, some like prime time comedies, some stick to sports channels... But that doesn't mean one is better or worse than the other.

I love the Thunderbolt more than my wife and my first born child...COMBINED! Can I get a bunch of "Thank you"s and "Welcome to Android Central"s because I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of HTC Thunderbolt, the best phone since Alexander Graham Bell's?

I hope you made sure your wife does not see this post or doesn't know what your username on these forums is :)

Welcome and congratulations, you have been assimilated into the collective.

My first TB was absolutly perfect no issues at all . sadly i dropped it and broke the screen ;-( of course my replacement has had the reboot issue it was up to 2 a day until i installed a app called memory booster . since then i have not had ANY reboots at all period . now im not saying it will fix everyones reboot problems but its worth a try . i just stumbled up on the app and thought i would try it not thinking it would do anything for the reboot issue that was a pleasent surprise . i still dont think this phone is as good as the first one as it dont get as good a signal but I have high hopes for this mythical update thats coming LOL

You should definitely go get the 4G IPhone. It doesn't have any of the problems that the TB has. ;)

The iPhone 4 is NOT 4G, it is 3G. Also with iPhone 5 coming in September it is foolish to get an iPhone 4 now if you really want to go that route. However, iPhone 5 wont be 5G either.

Don't forget no voice and data at the same time

a feature that MAYBE 5% of people use anyway.....

The thing is, I love the phone. I just can't handle the reboots and lack of apps. In your honest opinions, how long till the update?

The update that fixes the reboot problem for the vast majority of those who have installed it is already available if you download and install it manually. You also get the ability to turn off 4G without a third party app or entering hidden menus on the phone for your trouble.

As for the official update who knows! Probably another two or three weeks. Verizon is notoriously picky when selecting what updates to push especially on a device that is already running bad software.

I will have to admit I am little disappointed in the phone. (I have lot of forced closes lately as well hiccups in speed/function)

Those force closes have nothing to do with issues with the apps not the os itself (in most cases), and if iOS allowed true multitasking like Android there would be just as many FC's there. iOS has each app run in it's own sandbox so it cant interact with other apps unless specially written to be able to do so. Also, I had FC's all the time when I had an jailbroken iPhone.

childish? and ...the bigger what? A public forum is not the place to be sensitive nor challenging.

You post is public and the public here will chime in. The majority enjoy their TB's so expect some scoffing to some degree. It can do all you want, and it can perform well. Had you offered less strong opinion up front there would be less for readers to chew and comment on. Just as you stated that they should ignore your post if not interested or liking, you too might be better off doing the same as you scroll past to find the next post considered useful for which you seek.

No phone is perfect, but at least with the TB you already own you can root and iron out those kinks you're complaining about.

EDIT: FWIW, and after 1.5 months of being rooted and flashing numerous roms, I'm happily using BAMF 1.8 NTE with no additional tweaked other than the Dusk theme. Rock on XDA developers!

Like i said previously, if you're not interested, don't read or comment. I just wanted to get a feel for what other users thought. I've never had an iphone so I don't know much about them. Why do you guys chime in acting childish? Are we trying to see who has the bigger e-dick?

Just had my third reboot in last hour. It's 10am and I took my phone off the charger at 7:30am. O haven't really used it much and I'm already down to 68% battery. I have the extended battery!!!

Does Verizon not care? If that MR2 update works so well...why not update us?

I just don't understand.

Sold it yesterday for $350. Ordered a Droid 3 today. I wonder if it had been called the "Droid Thunderbolt" if it would be taking this long to fix?

I think the OP needs to asses what he uses his phone for. I had the OG droid, then the DINC, then an VIP4, then the DINC again, then the VIP4 again, then the bolt. I found that I relied on google maps a great deal, and android's version blew away the iphone's. I also have grown to love LTE, although I think as a phone, the iphone is better (call quality). It also bothers me that they still don't have non rooted skype video and netflix on the bolt, which has been present on the iphone since day one. If you play a lot of games, like netflix and skype, I'd stick with the iphone. If you travel a lot, and rely heavily on Google's services, I'd stick with android. I have an ipad 2 and the bolt so it's like having the best of both worlds.
