Feelin real good about RMHD right now

Hello,

I purchased the HTC DNA last weekend. I have been debating taking it back for the MAXX HD. The additional storage and battery sound pretty good to me. The hardware compared to the DNA though is what gives me hesitation. I read stories about lag issues and really poor camera quality. However, when I was in the Verizon store I didn't notice lag and the camera wasn't as horrible as I was led to think. The MAXX also felt better in my hand. The DNA is just a tad outside the comfortable area. The screen, quad core cpu and 2GB ram in the DNA seem to future proof it more but honestly, I tend to keep phones less then a year anyways.

Sorry for the rambling!

I think the consensus here is that really, what you pick will be on a case by case basis.

I don't like that some opinions here are reducing the RMHD to a good battery and that's it. Compared to what the current competition has, it has much more going for it. It has 32 GB of on board storage as well as an SD card slot, something the DNA and nexus 4, both newer phones, don't. Yes, the S3 and note 2 have that too, but the S3 is much older (and on its way out in less than a month) and the note 2 is just too big for some. Motorola also offers a very minimal UI. As some have mentioned, superior radios and build materials are selling points.

I was shopping for a phone after all the phones were in the market (after Christmas). I turned my back on the DNA and the note 2 for the above reasons. I needed a phone with great storage, and would last me a year. Battery life wasn't a decision driver, since most phones last at least a day now (12+ hours) and I didn't NEED days of life. I am in an area where streaming from cloud sucks. I have always liked Motorola's UI, and swear by their build quality and radios. I have never been a fan of the plasticy materials Samsung uses, because while I rarely drop a phone, I do use it a lot and don't want to worry about babying it. I also hate touch wiz, and none of the features exclusive to it serve me any purpose. And finally, since I am on a family plan, I can't leave Verizon just yet, so it couldn't be a nexus 4.

So my informed decision lead me to the RMHD. I am happy with that decision until the next wave if phones hits (HTC One, S4, and the Motorola X, or whatever they offer.

It takes some weeks of usage and adding multiple apps to start noticing some lag. Not noticing lag at the store doesn't mean much. It takes consistent usage to really know. I did a factory reset on my maxx HD about 3 weeks ago and the difference was tremendous.... After having constant lag and freezing all the time it was time for a factory reset. All lag and freezing was gone but sure enough started up again in the last week or so. Especially using Chrome.

I've still had random freezing and automatic forced reboots.

For what it worth the Note II is right on par if not slightly better than the RAZR HD in terms of signal strength. I've had both side by side and can say this. But both are great at it but Samsung has learned after the S3 had horrible signal or so I hear. Otherwise you're spot on.

Because Chrome sucks in it's current form.

Hello,
The MAXX also felt better in my hand. The DNA is just a tad outside the comfortable area.

I personally think this is the most important factor when choosing a phone. What good are great specs or super features if the phone is awkward or difficult to use? I was deciding between the GS3 and the Maxx and it came down to feel. How the phone functioned and felt in MY hands.
The killer battery is just a bonus in my book.

I'm glad they've learned. Have you had them side by side outside of a Verizon store? I feel like they use some sort of signal boosters to improve reception within their stores.

Yes, at my house when I had an HD activated and my friend had a Note II. So either way you can't go wrong and it comes down to what you want feature wise. Both have excellent battery life but the HD is beyond better due to its marginally higher capacity battery and less processing going on to drain it. It comes down to do you want t a big phone with a true HD display and high performance or better battery life so you can go days without charging. I charge every night so my decision was simple.

Picked up my Maxx HD on Wednesday and I can't complain about it (upgraded from a HTC Thunderbolt)... Think it is a great phone... Was considering the GS3 and the Note 2, but thought both of those devices were too big... The Maxx HD feels right in my hand and the battery life is sweet!
