few questions about rooting.

im looking into rooting my captivate but im a lil nervous too. if i do this will i loose all my info say contacts emails pics that are on the phone along with apps and wallpapers? and how do i know which cog or whatever i need to put on it.

If you root you can find great walkthroughs on the net. You won't lose anything just routing but before swapping roms back up everything

You might try a site/Google search.

After rooting you should install ClockworkMod Recovery and use it to backup your system. This should have the info you need.
