I'm looking for a Files Manager App that allows me to put the file name in text or use an avatar on the actual folder icon as opposed to having the name in text underneath the folder on my home screens. I've use ES Explorer and Astro before. They work great but don't do what I'm asking about here. There are so many of these apps to look through, so wondering if anyone is using an app that does this.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking for here but let me ask a follow up question to get some clarity from you . . .

What you want is to place shortcuts onto your HOME SCREENS to folders or specific files that are stored on the device, and to have those shortcuts show text in the icon itself as opposed to a standard icon with the text underneath it. That correct?

If so that's not possible without using widgets instead of shortcuts. Icons are basically image files and by default app launchers are not designed to create icons on the fly for an infinite number of possibilities such as text within them, that is why the text gets tagged underneath them.

So, as far as a solution goes, the first thing that comes to my mind is using Desktop Visualizer app. With it you can create widgets that you link to shortcuts or activities of other applications. The creation of the "icon" part of the widget is entirely in your hands though. I've used the image clip tool on my Note Pro to take screen grabs of images of things and then created widgets using those images that point to games or music playlists or other shortcuts using this app.

You can do this with Nova Launcher.

1. Browse to the folder in My Files app.
2. Long press on the folder, add it as a shortcut on your home screen.
3. Long press on the shortcut on your home screen.
4. Choose Edit.
5. Choose any image or icon for the home screen icon.
6. Add text below the icon if you wish.
7. Add a custom swipe action to the icon (might require Nova Launcher Prime, not sure) to perform a Nova action, launch an app, or preform a shortcut action.
8. Or just click on the icon to get to your folder.

Muzzy996 that's exactly what I want to do. You explained it better than I did. I may have my technical words mixed up. Yes, I have folders on my screens with text underneath but would like to have an icon on it. I am using Nova Prime launcher and the built in file manager. I long press on a folder in files and get option to add to homescreen. I add folder to homescreen then drag it to whichever screen I want it to be on. I have different screens for work, personal, media etc...
Going_nil, I do use Nova Prime and have done exactly what you said. It does work well.
I'm looking to go one step farther if possible.
I work with multiple investment and insurance companies and would like to have their company logo on the front of the folder shortcuts I create on my screens. I am going to try the Desktop Visualizer and see if that works. As a note, I use Moonshine Icon Pack along with others.
Thanks for your input.

With Nova you can set a picture from your gallery as a folder or shortcut icon. Long press on it - edit - tap on the icon in that window - gallery apps - select your gallery - search and select the picture - done.

Didn't think about that one Javier but that'd work great too if all fatyank wants is a logo to represent each folder. In fact doing this would lighten system resources I'd think by reducing the need to add another app/service to the device.

Thanks Javier. I forgot about that too. I'll let you know how it works
