Don't rely on the photo in that article -- I think what you're looking at is historical, and doesn't represent what an OTG adapter these days looks like. They look more like the one here: https://www.samsung.com/au/support/mobile-devices/what-is-an-otg-on-the-go-cable/
Thanks for your link.

What I need is a cable to connect the external USB drive to my Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S22 Ultra . Please refer to the photo attached. On the right is Galaxy Ultra S22 Ultra and on the left Galaxy S6 Edge. Their ports for charging are different in size.

Furthermore I can confirm that photos and video captured on Galaxy S9+ can be saved directly on the SD storage card. I have tested it. This feature saves me lot of work in traveling abroad. I can just change an empty SD card when the working SD card is full. Wonderful !!!!

Hi B. Diddy

I'm prepared purchasing a 500G or 1TB USB external SSD for test, connecting to My Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S6 Edge phones. There are many brands available on the market. Could you please give me some suggestion. I have no pre-set budget.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but companies that come to mind are Samsung, Sandisk, Western Digital, Seagate, Crucial, PNY, Corsair, and Kingston.

Reminder the s22u has no sd card option
Reminder the s22u has no sd card option

Thanks

What I need to do;
Transferring the photos and videos on s22u internal to the external USB SSD drive for storage. I'm not prepared to capture the photos and video and save them direct on the external USB SSD drive. I'm trying to solve the problem when s22u internal storage is full, on traveling.

Can I do it with an external USB SSD?

Regards

Hi all,

Today I purchase a SanDisk Extreme Portable USB 3.2 SSD V2 1TB

It can be detected automatically by S6 Edge, S9+ and S22 Ultra smart phones as USB Storage device.
Showing;
System Volume Information
Install SanDisk Software for Mac.dmg
Install SanDisk Software for Windows.exe

Then on Ubuntu 22.04 computer I ran fdisk creating a single partition on it and format it as ext4. I copied files on it. But the portable USB SSD can't be detected by all smart phones.

I also tried vfat format but still the device can't be detected by my smart phones. Please advise which format to be used so that it can be detected by Android phones.

Thanks and regards

Hi all,

Thanks for your reply.

I have solved the problem. The solution is very simple.

1)
Plugin the SanDisk Extreme Portable USB 3.2 SSD to Galaxy S22 Ultra smart phone
2)
At the left top corner of the phone scroll down the menu
3)
Warning - an unsupported USB storage device detected. Format it?
4)
Format the USB storage device
5)
Then the USB storage device is added to the smart phone
6)
Files on Internal can be copied and pasted on USB storage SSD

It must be operated on Android phone to format SanDisk Extreme Portable USB 3.2 SSD. It can't be done on Linux computer. Now I can copy files on computer to the USB storage SSD. Files copied can be read and moved/duplicated on the smart phone..

I have to invest time learning how to use the USB storage device connected to the smart phone. I can't save the captured photos/videos direct on the USB storage device. I have tested it.

Regards

Hi B. Diddy,

For your information

Android Phone
Filesystem type = exfat

The device must be formatted on Android phone.

exfat also works on Linux computer

Just found following link;
how to install exfat-utils and hddtemp on ubuntu 22.04

I'll try it when I purchase another SanDisk USB Portable SSD
